Trade Me is in danger of committing commercial seppuku it seems.

Doubtless the fee increase stems from shrinking sales.

I've almost stopped using trademe. I did buy a vehicle part last year, probably my only purchase.   I certainly don't sell via trademe -- used facebook marketplace with great success (despite all the horror stories).

Trademe is not quite a yellow pages situation, but I suspect it was not good investment decision (in hindsight).

I usually try to give my stuff away before considering Trademe even for stuff that is worth a bit - would much rather give something to family friends or community rather than sell and perpetuate the impression I am okay with the fees.....just hate the fees...I don't mind "something", but the rates seem excessive for what you get....seems they are a little like Sky in that they seem so static and are not changing with the world...or maybe they are just milking their market position

I just got an email from TradeMe today saying any $1 reserve auctions I list, or relist, tomorrow (01/02/2020) will have no success fee.

The way the T&Cs are worded it doesn't sound like it applies to all members.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

Trademe can be just as bad as FB market place though for no-shows and time wasters.

I've sold an item, no contact from the buyer for a week. There's no automated way to reinstate by sucess fee, auto deducted by Trademe without raising a query manually.

Plus you can't act like you don't get stupid questions low-balling offers and asking all sorts of stupid things.

FB doesn't have any success fees so it's the wild-west for sure, but you don't pay anything so why should FB put any effort into protecting you for free?

Trademe takes fees left, right and centre, but if the sale goes south, they err on the buyers side even if you get stuffed around and make you jump through hoops to get your money back.

Who is better is relative, but let's not put Trademe on a pedestal here.

Also can I please put on my tin-foil hat and point out this Trademe advertisement 'news' piece released hours before the price increase announcement?

With zero money invested, Kiwi dropshipper says he now makes $25,000 a month online

I think you missed the sarcasm. "Cool story, bro" means the tale is met with discredit...

The dropshipping thing has completely ruined the "Electronic Components" subcategory for me. Thousands of highly priced listings for absolute crap from "shop_ez", and no ability to filter them out with the listings claiming to be from Auckland until you read the description.

Not only do they take 2 weeks + to be delivered, you still need to deal with potential customs issues. Surely with the dropshipper making anywhere near that sort of money, they would fall under the new regulations and need to deal with the GST.

If I wanted that sort of thing, I'd go shop on Aliexpress or Banggood myself.
