Supermarkets are raking in the profits...i hope they are looking after their staff well.

Our local is looking after the community, not just staff. The manager is awesome and very community minded. She mentioned that yes, sales are good, but next week could be extremely low so it off sets.

You cant blame supermarkets for people going stupid and buying bulk when they don't need to.

Thats good to hear. I believe NZers may well purchase more groceries over the coming months rather than less as takeaways and cafes are closed and we will all probably eat for comfort. Home cooking will be the new norm, for those that remember how to :P.

This brand should have been deprecated forever when the business was closed down. Something like the Ford Edsel or Ford Pinto.

If this is factual it's even worse than price gouging IMO

Brishane Times the same, articles related to Covid, are not behind the paywall. Let's hope the Herald does the same or they will lose a lot of goodwill.

In a case like this, maybe it is justified to tell people how to bypass their paywall. It isn't difficult.

Not too happy to see New World (Multiple Stores) selling chickens at $30 each, with the explanation of human error that the product was mislabelled with the per KG price being the sell price.

I don't recall the last time I ever saw chicken at $30 a KG.

I see a Tui Ad there.

I actually do understand removing specials during this time, even if it wasn't for demand, the effort required in man power to maintain them is better spent elsewhere.

The thing is, whilst I don't analyse these things, I do know we don't save hugely on specials, and I do have a rough idea what we spend per visit at the New World we shop at.

Conservatively I estimate we paid around 25% more for groceries in the past 10 days.

I have a construction project started at home (house extension in Akl) and of course everything stopped now, no workers will attend site for weeks. I also have a portable toilet on hire for the site, from KIWI FLUSH. I asked if they still charge rental for this period and their answer was "business as usual". Surely there is nothing as usual on this construction site...

As a comparison, I had scaffold from GET IT UP Scaffolding and when I asked them about the hire charges over Christmas period (2 weeks) they were happy to drop the hire charges for that period. That provided the project with a very useful $800 breath of fresh air... and they were under no obligation to do that.

I still think fuel companies are doing their part on this subject. The slightest hint of world troubles or the increase in oil per barrel is always quoted by them when the price goes up to 'match' within 24 hours, yet the price has dropped -60% in the past few weeks and all i see is fuel being about 20cents less. I don't claim to understand how their pricing works but it really doesn't seem right.

If anything, I bought less (because unlike lots of people, I know food isn't in short supply), and I bought different because our usual items weren't always available.

No, I didn't analyse exactly, but I do have a pretty good feeling for these things.

it's not so much gouging as just not having specials .At my Pak n Save all vegetables have gone up since Monday, eg Cabbages 1.99 up to 3.99, 10kg Potatoes 7.99 up to 13.99.

Common sense is not as common as you think.
