My favourite song always changes .
Right now its Neil Finn doing a cover of David Bowies Hero's in one of his at home concerts on you tube.

Pertinent for these times.

I think music is something too variable to have an all time favorite.

my two favorite periods would be the baroque and classical.

Baroque because it introduced melodic music from the likes of Antonio Vivaldi (The 4 seasons) and Beethoven (perhaps the inventer of modern pop music - the riff from the 5th symphony).

Classical would be the likes of Richard Wagner and the opera Die Ring des Nibelungen and Die Walkure. Where each character has their own theme (leitmotif)

You might enjoy Khruangbin & Hiatus Kaiyote as well. The video you posted came up on my Youtube Music personalized playlist a few weeks back, through listening to those two groups.

My choice could change week to week, day to day in terms of favorite.

There is so much talent, and so much outstanding music over the past 10 years. I'm not dead yet.

Khruangbin I listen to. I'll listen to Hiatus Kaiyote (new to me I think).

You do need a good sound system - much recent stuff does not work well on systems from the 80s etc.

Radiohead - OK Computer - Paranoid Android.

I listen to all kinds of music but I'll listen to that album, and that song in particular, at least once every week. Seeing it live in Auckland a few years ago is up there with my wife and kids !

A favourite song doesn't mean it's something I listen to often (for me at least). It is a song that always brings pleasant emotions and a certain sense of time and place, YMMV.

That is surprising, coming from you. Classical is 'old' music. Old just means it has stood the test of time. Music either appeals or it doesn't. It has nothing to do with some arbitrary date stamp placed on it.

Brothers in Arms - Dire Straits

Solid choice. I would probably also have something by Knopfler as a main choice, but it's very hard to choose. If I could have the Local Hero OST album as a 'piece' of music, I would go with that.

There's also a beautiful track on his 2009 album Get Lucky called 'Monteleone', which I think is technically a waltz? It's very simple, very sweet.

I would also not argue with anyone who wanted to say 'Telegraph Road'. Feels very timeless at the moment.

For a non-Knopfler answer? It's five songs but they run as one. Explosions in the Sky - The Earth is Not A Cold Dead Place. It really is something special.
