psychrn:

About a month or so ago after lockdown I purchased a Remington Rapid Cut Pro for the obvious reason of not being able to go to the barber and getting your hair cut.

I used it for the 1st time today and I was very happy with it.,

It is nice and easy to hold-chunky in fact. it  comes with 12 hair guides.

Easy to use by yourself-go against the grain.

I initially tried a #3 but went to a #2 as is my usual nymber at the hair dresser.

Partner just helped me tidy up the back hair line.

It ewas on special at HN for $89 from almost x2 the price.

I think it will pay for itself in a few months.

The back line is definitely the hardest part to get right on your own, but can be doable with a bit of practice. I find the safest way is to cut the whole head at the length you want first, then put a shorter comb on/make the cutting length shorter and then go upwards from the bottom until a certain height, pulling away from the head when you get there. An even shorter comb for final tidying up, to a lower line on the head to finish up.
I'm very blond, so minor mistakes tend not to be that visible - YMMV if you have darker hair.

My most recent clippers are Wahl ones - got them on some special deal or another during lockdown.

I had Wahl SuperTaper clippers (professional grade - cost me a fortune back then) for around 30 years but they gave up the ghost a while back and I replaced them with cheapish Remington ones that lasted about a year and a bit.

My new Wahl cordless ones are insanely sharp and precise and remind me of my old Professional grade ones that did me so well for so long.

Late to the party - I got a corded Wahl Balder trimmer to do my hair with quite a while ago (got frustrated with cheaper sets that couldn't even cut through hair ...)

I switched to the Remington model a couple of years ago - couldn't be happier - surprisingly comfortable to use, and the battery seems to last forever!

One nice thing is that you can actually order spare parts - the little plastic clips on the #0 comb broke - I emailed the NZ Reps, asked for a new part, paid and it was delivered.

The only thing I struggle with is - with such a wide trimmer, how are you supposed to trim around your ears!?

My Wahl trimmers are now sitting in the cupboard abandoned...
