About a month or so ago after lockdown I purchased a Remington Rapid Cut Pro for the obvious reason of not being able to go to the barber and getting your hair cut.

I used it for the 1st time today and I was very happy with it.,

It is nice and easy to hold-chunky in fact. it  comes with 12 hair guides.

Easy to use by yourself-go against the grain.

I initially tried a #3 but went to a #2 as is my usual nymber at the hair dresser.

Partner just helped me tidy up the back hair line.

It ewas on special at HN for $89 from almost x2 the price.

I think it will pay for itself in a few months.

About 20 years ago I bought a set of Wahl clippers for $70. I used them for about 10 years before I switched to just using my Philips razor . The clippers are still in the bathroom, and still perfectly fine.

Those clippers have more than paid for themselves.

Clippers are great, I've had a Wahl one for 20 years, still going well. I don't use a comb on it (number zero), easy to do by yourself. I always oil it as well, think that helps it last longer considering it only gets used just over a dozen times a year.

I've been doing this for a few years and I recently upgraded my ageing Braun trimmer with one of these which I got on special for about $120. It's an amazingly good piece of kit for that price.

Of course the results are nowhere near as good as going to a barber but I'm too old to care about my appearance so I'll happily take the cost saving.

I bought a professional set of Wahl hair clippers in 1996. Since then I haven’t paid for a hair cut once and I’ve sent the blades away twice to be professionally sharpened. I cut my hair every two weeks otherwise it just becomes a fuzzy mess. Best money I’ve ever spent.

My $60 'Vs Sassoon pro intensive 50' clippers have been going strong for seven years now. Took em apart just the other day and crikey they were filthy. Gunk, oil, and old hair mixed together.

Like you OP, I haven't quite mastered the art of doing the back of my head on my own. Have to get the partner in to do a straight line and clip around the ears.

VS are quality, but sometimes they create odd designed combs that are difficult to replace.

With more forehead than hair these days, you'd think I'd throw the clippers away and start growing it out 😀

Bought these myself and wound up selling my Wahl set on during lockdown. These are so much quicker and easy to use. They seem a bit expensive considering what they are (mostly plastic), but they do the job so prove their worth.

What type of trades person does one send these to? I would like to know what to search for when looking for a local to sharpen mine.

My fortnightly injection takes care of my hair. However I am not sure it's cost effective.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Shaver Shop used to offer blade sharpening services, but a long time ago, there used to be mobile scissor and clipper blade sharpeners when I was a hairdresser.

Sometime around 1995 I acquired a second hand set of Wahl clippers, which lasted me nearly 20 years and convinced me that Wahl clippers were nigh on perfection. When they finally started giving out, I then acquired a new set of Wahl clippers and they were.. garbage.. actual utter garbage. After a few months of frustration I replaced them with another more expensive set.. which were still garbage.. I was then recommended and then acquired one of the curved Remington ones similar to OP about 4-5 years ago and have never looked back.

I considered buying one of these during the lockdown, but from the reviews I read at the time, the battery doesn't last very long.
