Why not email back saying something along the lines of what freitasm suggested "Read the rules fella, you've just sold me your car for $1..." If nothing else regular updates will provide some amusement for GZ'ers.
If they're illegal copies of CD's being sold commercially via Trademe and Trademe aren't taking any notice, that makes them an accomplice and their liability will be astronomical. Get onto the Australasian Performing Rights Association (APRA) about it. They'll take it seriously, and I've no doubt Trademe will also do the same a very short time later.
gomez: I must say my frustrations with Trademe are growing by the week. A while ago I purchased a CD titled "Goodby Mr Pink Floyd". Well, me being a Pink Floyd nut paid $25 for it. What I received was a copied CD, and two other copied CDs.
Totally disgusted, I emailled the seller and she packed an attitude with me. I took the matter to Trademe and they sent me one of their usual automated responses with a reply-to of noreply@trademe.co.nz - figures.
Its getting to the point where I'm going to open a paypal account and start using eBay.
I would normally report this types of auctions and they get cancelled (and usually they have a lot of similar stuff, they all get cancelled and maybe banned). This is illegal. Also, these types of recordings are usually shared freely by fans so no point paying some chump for the same thing you can get yourself free (although the legality is doubtful, some bands fully support fans sharing bootleg recordings or similar for no gain as long as its not commercially available).
In the case of the cds trademe really do nothing. I tried a while back, even sent the cds to ICONZ or whatever and they sent it back saying there was nothing wrong (The cds had the wrong artist's music on it even!) This has put me off ever buying cds off trademe because I pride myself on only legit cds and dvd (as some of you painsakingly know). I was really annoyed that nothing was done about this. The dude had sold 1000's of cds and every once in a while the feedback was people saying the cds weren't legit but still nothing happened
On the CD point, you can report piracy to RIANZ (Recording Industry Association of New Zealand) - rianz.org.nz:
"Do you have any information on music piracy? Help stamp piracy out contact in confidence piracy@rianz.org.nz" [direct quote].
For muppets making incorrect sales, in theory there is a binding contract. For claims up to $7500, you can go to the disputes tribunal (formerly the small claims tribunal). Its low cost, and nominally simple. http://www.justice.govt.nz/tribunals/disputes_tribunals.html

IPONZ is the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand? This is where you go to register a patent or a trademark, but they don't do enforcement as far as I know. Its usually for the copyright owner to sue/take action.
Actually, thinking about it, the normal remedy for copyright infringement is to sue to infringer for $$$, but there is section in the copyright act about criminal penalties. I have a feeling that the police are responsible for this bit.
