Really poorly thought out. Reminds me of that WKRP episode where the station manager threw turkeys at a crowd out of a helicopter, thinking they could fly.
I dunno about the company reimbursing people, but I'd like to think whatever genius at the "safety" company that dreamed this one up is looking for a new line of work. Seriously, what did they expect would happen?
Surely questions also need to be asked about the council approving such an event.
Have not seen the actual fake money, would counterfeit come into play here if it looked so real ??.

There are plenty of photos on FB and news networks had the stuff last night. It wasn't very real at all.
$5 colour copied - so no window.
'greenback' wording added. Face modified, and serial number reversed. Guess they gathered the old '30%+' change lets them away with it trick.
Is an image of it on NZH now
I'm trying think of a cliche to sum up what happened here, but the best I can think of is the opposite of "a fool and his money are soon parted"...but I don't know what that would be.
Was 100k really mixed in with the coupons , Either way bet they were not expecting what happened.

Three page media release from the company hitting back at those petitioning for vouchers to be swapped back for cash:

No mention of if $100k in cash was actually dropped in this article, but it does include a marketing image describing the event at "The Drop - 100k Live Cash Giveaway NZ".
Somebody on another site said it could be a tax evasion strategy. Whats this $100k promotional expense here? - Oh that was the cash giveaway we did. We got $100k out from the bank in 5's and threw it into a crowed of people, none of it ended up back at my place.
neb: All the company needs to do to demonstrate how much cash was there is post the bank withdrawal receipt. You don't get $100K, or indeed $1, without there being a paper trail.
Get out $100k, keep $95k at home. Drop $5k on the plebs, say it was $100k, spend $5k on venue hire, scafford etc. $23k tax evaded at 33% rate.
[edit], but I highly suspect that they never got $100k out, and the statement saying they dropped $100k in cash + 40k in vouchers was false.
I am not sure if the company had paid the media off to give coverage (even if bad coverage) but what a phenomnal marketing investment. Front page with their brand name for days and for what was a pretty uninspiring event attracting those without much money.
If they prove they did what they said they were going to do (i.e. they did give away $100,000), then there isn't much to complain about and in fact some pity for people literally physically attacking them.

For a normal company you can argue all publicity is fundamentally good publicity.. Except this company just has dodgy written all over it - from the website which looks like a scam site, to the owner of the company who has a history of making it in the news.
