@JaseNZ It is with a sense of great concern that I must judge you for indulging in such a dangerous practice of watching Shortland Street. I am deeply concerned for the conservation of your Cranial material that is being placed under extreme duress and strain as a result of this behaviour. I ask you, no I beseech you with upmost sincerity and vigour to refrain and draw back from the reckless pursuit before it is too late. It is not too late to save yourself and others that risk all to view abomination.

Yeah look for me it's escapism as has been mentioned that and the missus watches it. The story lines are recycled and I would say most nz actors would be been through it at least one if not a few times. There is one there now that was killed 25 years ago as a different person of course lol.

A lot of the acting is cringe worthy but some are ok I tend to find it more of a comedy than a drama.

ZollyMonsta: I can work out the storylines so easy I should be one of their scriptwriters

Quite some years ago I was at a talk given by one of the show's producers. He said they deliberately telegraph plotlines because viewers like feeling as though they've pieced together the puzzle. But congrats to you anyway for figuring it all out 🙂

Criticising a soap opera for its acting and writing seems redundant. It's a soap opera. It has no pretentions about being anything else. It's like criticising the patty from a Big Mac for not being filet mignon. It's not supposed to be top quality, so judging against that criteria just makes you look pompous.

I remember staying at my cousins' when I was a kid and being forced to watch this....crap

All the "Actors" end up in the hospital as patients themselves

@MikeB4 , Mate I understand your concern but my concern is the wrath of my wife should I choose not to participate in this nighty ritual where she has somebody to yell at.
There is a lot of two and fro though where I point out the plot holes and the impossibility of how some things happen.

It really is quite the spectacle and our nightly argument.

I remember discussing NZ TV shows with one of my customers. She runs a very successful production company. She asked me what shows I dislike the most. I said Shorty of course. She burst out laughing and said you do realise I was the creator of it right....

We used to watch it, would never be upset if we missed it though. Stopped a couple of years ago.. for no reason in particular we just realized one day that we never watched it any more.

Even when we did watch it we knew it was garbage. The odd piece that I catch sometimes now has moderate swearing in now like "sh*t", that's new.

How many murders and kidnappings can one group of workmates and families be involved in, and how many children does Chris Warner have now?

I don't watch it because it depicts deviant behaviour which has a normalising effect on society

Sounds interesting. Exactly what deviant behaviour are we talking about here?

In the early days, I watched a bit of it because the acting was so bad it was almost comedy.

Hah! Outrageous Fortune and The Almighty Johnsons had far more deviant behaviour in them!
