It was Harry and Meghan who said they wanted to be financially independent, in their original instagram post.
Tall Poppy syndrome is alive and well in this thread. I guess racism isn't racism if it's directed at wealthy folks.

Not at all. It's just we are only hearing one version of events.
Objectively a few takeaways.
1 - Internal staff refusing to address her mental health is disappointing, but not surprising in the least.
[This is probably the most disappointing thing personally.]
2 - UK's press is toxic.
["The Sun" is 57 years strong. I needn't say any more.]
3 - UK royals moral compass never pointed due North.
[Protect a probable kiddy fiddler, ostracise family members for questioning/refusing to play the 'Game of Royals'.]
4 - Anyone that takes this interview at face value, and the responses to it from the Palace are ignorant.
5 - HR are ALWAYS there to protect the interest of the company first.
That's pretty much it eh, and honestly if any of the above is a surprise to you I suggest you get out more.

I think these points are subjective

A lot of you sure have formed opinions on the interview without actually taking the time to watch the interview. therefore I find your opinions invalid. How about you employ some critical thinking skills instead.
My parents watched it last night and they were absolutely anti Meghan prior. This interview changed that for them and now find her genuine in her struggle against the BRF. For what it’s worth, I wasn’t a fan of hers either before but the interview changed my opinion of her.
I watched it and I reckon I am pretty good with reading people and body language etc...I felt like she was genuinely unhappy with many things, but also that this was a bit self-serving and disingenuous.
I also got the distinct impression that Hazza wasn't happy with how it was all going down, but he's very much under her thumb and has given up everything he knows, because Meg reminds him of mum. Independent, free-spirited and anti-establishment etc. I feel most sorry for him.
Interesting that he said his dad stopped taking his calls. But that was never really fully elaborated on.
She also silenced him a couple of times with a quiet gesture (like the hand on his knee when he went to say something that I believe would have slightly contradicted her).
I'm on the fence. I think there was a lot of truth in what she said, but I think the way in which it was done left a lot to be desired. I also am unsure of the motives, other than keeping in the public eye, to be able to earn from sales of books, interviews, etc.
FWIW, I am not a royalist or a follower of celebrities. This was on, it had received a big build up and I thought it was interesting.

Nothing to do with Tall Poppies.
Anyone who's ever seen old footage of the Royals and their various gaffs would know that casual racism is alive and well amongst that "firm".
I don't think that the racism angle has been ignored or disparaged - I think it's more the sense of entitlement that has caused outrage, to be honest. They are wealthy, upper-class people who want a private life away from the cameras...unless they want to live in front of the cameras and have a public life. It also seems that there are a few examples where they are after the benefits but not the pitfalls of being Royal.
By the same token, I can understand that they'd be somewhat reluctant to lose the security detail...that would be quite scary after the lifetime of protection that Harry has enjoyed.

Handle9:
Who's Harry Meghan Oprah and what did he steal?
Did you just assume their skin colour?
Paul1977:
As far as the racism thing goes, was it just one person questioning whether Archie would be "too brown" to represent they royal family? Obviously a very inappropriate comment, but did it really represent the whole family?
Royalty is the ultimate extreme of racism... the concept that someone with "royal blood" is somehow better and entitled to power and control and coincidentally therefore also more of everything than anyone else.
No I didn't watch it. I couldn't care less about royal drop kicks and their first world problems.

I reckon the following applies to tens of millions in the developed world ...
What they said: "I have no interest in the royals and didn't watch it"
What they did: Glued to their screens.
An opinion piece on why they should move here, instead of the US.

Exactly, It's like the existing bias against Americans, or for or against Royals has kicked in.
I haven't watched it yet, no opinion, and Ive avoided news although I see UK people are anti Markle in droves. I like the Royal traditions, but my opinion will be that either Markle is a user or the Royal Family don't want their royalness touched and have been secretly banishing her. First thoughts when they wedded, was that there are easier lives for a pretty, wealthy, known actress to live than tieing herself to the Royal Family. Hope to start tonight on it
