As a grumpy old bass player with no sons or daughters to continue on the family tradition, this kind of stuff is very gratifying to see, the newer generations coming through.  You are no doubt very proud, as you should be.  Hopefully she keeps practising, playing and mostly enjoying the instrument.  Well done to you both!

My son's music exam result, working through grades on Rockschool New Zealand – Awarding the Contemporary Arts (rockschoolnz.co.nz)

That's his grade 3 result and he had distinction for all his grade 2 songs last year too.

As a proud Kiwi, it's hard to top hearing your sproglet playing a Kiwi song.

What I would like to know is how the heck bass players manage to make it all look so relaxed and easy...different kind of humans to lead guitarists, that's for sure!!!

Sorry, but another PD moment :D

Was the school Cultural Arts Awards  last night, and my daughter came out with Outstanding Contribution to Music (Junior), and Music Excellence for Rock School (2nd year running).

Checking out Like a Storm on Spotify thanks to the above comments.  So far so good.

I'd never heard of them, so had to look them up and have a listen. They're really good. From what I read they went to the USA and never came back?

I'd like to share my "Proud dad" moment also.

This is my 15yo son flying a glider solo, which he has been doing since January (while he was still 14!!). I think back to when I was 15 and my life goal was to see how far I could jump my BMX!!

Yes and no ;)

Basically NZ is a tough nut to crack for rock, so with their father being Canadian, they had easy access to Canada, so went there and pushed into the US scene from there.

They were on their first official NZ tour (as headline) when COVID hit - so the three brothers stayed (The drummer Zach, is from California and didn't make the tour). Two of them have since gone back to the US, and the third is still in NZ with his family - once they get some tour dates sorted, they'll all meet up again and hit the road.

They do want to finish their NZ tour, but need to get 2 years of backlog sorted in the US.

It's hell of a night when these guys are with Black Smoke Trigger, awesome music, awesome guys, and lots of fun :)

But an awesome hobby :D

Blown away by my 13 year old son who after hearing the person who mows our elderly neighbours lawn (she lost her husband of 55 years last year in a horrific accident) was in hospital for a long while, got up early this morning and mowed her lawn which is huge compared to ours, with the catcher on and in a way to get nice stripes. She takes great care of her garden so he wanted it to match.

He wouldn't accept payment or reward, he wanted to help and give her a smile. I couldn't be more proud.

That seems mostly true to me as well. Having said that, I've seen some devil kids grow up to be pretty amazing adults.
