The place that should really do this is the Cook Islands. It's light there more or less 05:30-19:30 all year round, shifting that right by an hour or two would make it much more tourist-friendly.
I agree with some of the above for NZ - a permanent shift to DST would have more benefit than downside
I read something in the dead of winter about the possibility of a shift to permanent DST and what it would mean in winter for the deep south.
Wouldn't get light until after 8am in Dunedin and would be slightly worse in Southland. wouldn't make that much difference in the north, from memory, but I'll see if I can dig out the article.
EDIT: Found it - bottom half of the article is the most useful: https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/124585490/daylight-saving-its-not-savings-time-why-we-change-the-clocks-twice-a-year
There's some graphs that show what it would mean to the top of the country and the bottom of the country.

They say it will give visitors an extra hour to see their dazzling sights.
What complete morons.
Tourist attractions could just choose to open and close an hour earlier and achieve exactly they same result, but without creating their own little time zone. It's like they think it's actually creating more daylight.
Again, complete morons.
EDIT: Corrected "later" to "earlier".

Would we have two pages on a tech-based forum about Te Anau, if they hadn't raised this though?
I say they're not morons at all - they're quite ingenious. Massive amounts of marketing for their small town that has been struggling with closed borders and low tourism numbers.

I would be ok with ending daylight saving if I could withdraw all the savings and use them.😁
You can't do that - they're under clockdown.
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I guess it depends whether that was the intent.
I'd support the whole country just moving to DST permanently. I love it and hate travelling overseas in the summer where some countries, don't use DST.
I find it really annoying switching back and forward, and the extra hour of daylight at the end of the day would suit me just fine.

I'm with you on that.
I also find the switching back and forth twice a year really throws me for a wobbly.

The biggest thing for me is that I am more likely to be outside and active in the light at the end of the day (as opposed to the start of the day), gives me more chance to play with the kids outside.
I guess if you are an early riser then that won't suit.
Every year for about a week a very small noisy minority have a hissy fit about daylight saving then the press gets bored and the teacup tempest goes away.

allan: We have of course been on 30 mins of permanent daylight savings since 1946 when we adopted NZ summer time as NZ standard time. Prior to that NZ standard time was 11 hours & 30 minutes ahead of GMT, not 12 hours ahead.
just add another 30 mins and stick with it all year round

To hell with it! Make it two hours!

I love how all these discussions turn up as we move into Summer months, No one talks about dumping daylight savings when we are in April and Sunrise is around 7:30am,
Without DST by the end of May, sunrise would be 8.30am in Wellington, while on the shortest day it would be nearly 8.45am....
While it may be annoying to have limited afternoon/evening daylight at that time of year, I would certainly prefer it to having to get up in the dark for almost 6 months.... and trying to get kids off to school in the dark is already tough, removing DST just makes it even tougher...
