Stu:

Yes, anything involving a courier will be stale or forgotten by the time it arrives if you're in the Auckland delivery system.

NZ Post courier is a little hit and miss. NZ Post services are otherwise woeful (usual falsehoods etc.). Everyone else seems to be delivering at most a day late and we had a same day delivery from Post Haste this morning.

The delays in Auckland are mostly with getting orders out the door, rather than the actual deliveries.

I find NZ Post to be extremely reliable, but Post Haste a 0% success rate.

Order volume has increased by 2-3 orders of magnitude across the board, from a handful of orders to thousands per store per day. See the post in another thread about Warehouse order volumes on a single weekend, you can do a handful by any arbitrary slow manual process but once you get to thousands a day...

Considering that in level 3 areas this is their ONLY way to trade and demand is probably hot due to lockdown being good DIY time this is absolutely terrible for them. Something big must have happened for them to be down for the entire weekend and going into its 4th day. I would hate to be the techs responsible for fixing whatever happened.

The Mitre10 process was so good for lockdown - choose a timeslot. Hardly any waiting and in/out so quickly. I ended up having to order from Bunnings for a measly 4 bolts and probably and still no pickup available alert after 1 day.

I wonder if there will be an inside scoop on what happened here? I take it the rest of the country's Mitre10's are working fine?

It's nationwide.

There will almost certainly be an extensive postmortem at a later date.

Are store point of sales and stock levels working nationwide though? They have a DOS style terminal when I last looked at their systems there. I wonder if they are using a "legacy" style mainframe system?

FWIW I walked into a wellington M10 at 6PM and bought something no problem.

It's only the web-based stuff which is out, in theory you can call them and place an order over the phone, however given that that's the only way to get anything done they're, uh, "experiencing higher than normal call volumes". You're also dealing with individual stores/franchisees at that point so it depends on whether you can locate a low-turnover store.

Depending on where you are in the country... Bunnings is ridiculously busy. All of Bunnings' own orders plus now 4 day's worth of Mitre 10's business as well, I definitely wouldn't want to be doing any urgent DIY.

I used their personal shopper form when I noticed it at around 9am.  Had a call from my chosen store (Westgate) a little under an hour later advising my order was ready for collection, and pickups close at 5:30pm.

The team at that store have consistantly impressed me.

Home improvement double whammy.

Can't use the $100 Mitre10 voucher I won.
Still can't take advantage of the $20 off $100 spend @ Bunnings (pay with Zip) because it can only be done in-store and us Waikato folk are still in level 3.

Tough time for their Web/IT Dept. Hope its not an upgrade gone wrong which they have been unable to back out of.

Just a FYI for anyone holding store cards (they had a $15 per $100 promo in June, so those cards were due to expire while Auckland was in lockdown). It's up to the individual store if they will extend them. I'm not sure why that's the case, because you can use them online. My local store has agreed to reissue mine when we move back to Level 2 (or I guess the traffic light equivalent, whatever our captors decide).
