Geektastic: All the supermarkets round here (Wairarapa)have been devoid of almost all frozen Watties vegetables for several weeks.

Is that the case where you live?

I was in Masterton Countdown yesterday, plenty of Watties in the freezer.

There is also the problem that current covid things makes people isolate on no or minimal pay if they're a secondary contact till the close contact gets their negative which is taking 5 days now. Massive number of people off work as a result if they choose to comply.

I work in in FMCG supplying grocery (not Watties). Today we have 30% absenteeism in our Auckland distribution centre through team members being required to self isolate or stay home to look after a child who is isolating.

Gaps on shelves will be the norm for the next 3-4 months.

There is no such thing as a secondary contact at Phase 2 under the govt framework.  Employers may have more conservative rules than govt, but then they should be paying the employee to stand down.  We are allowing close contacts to come to work if they return a negative RAT tests, provided the positive case doesn't live with them.

There will be multiple factors at play

1) materials delay i.e. packaging (most of the wrap is imported and there could be a delay to these rolls and or a delay to the inks used in printing)

2) Harvests:  Vegetables that are in season, might be affected by weather therefore disrupting harvests. Vegetables not in season....obviously run out of bulk frozen stock

3) Staff:  shortage of harvest staff, shortage of factory staff (for whatever reason)

4)  X supermarket brands may have deleted certain SKUs due to space, already have another brand of the same thing or doesn't fit with their offer/range or other circumstances

Most of the frozen range is locally grown....

I was in the Four Square in Martinborough today - no sign of Watties in the freezer there.

The Pams frozen croissant have reappeared after a month long hiatus. Recommended to any fellow pastry aficionados - they are actually made in France and imported and they taste like it.
