I keep seeing this Penlink but i can't quite find info on what it actually is?

It's the Auckland council equivalent of the Spanish word mañana, but without the sense of urgency.

At least it's started now! I'm in Gulf Harbour. As other's have said, a lovely spot if you don't have to go anywhere. Can't comment specifically about Stanmore Bay but it's the commute that will make or break things. I travel for work so it doesn't affect me, but my partner has just switched jobs (this week) after commuting to the CBD for about a year. It was really hard on her. Maybe tolerable if you earn mega bucks, but added at least two hours to her work day.

Thanks for all the replies.

We have gone for it as we fell in love with the house and its leaps an bounds above anything we can get in the Bays (if we can even get anything at all)

We both wfh 2-3 days a week so that should hopefully soften the commute but very much looking forward to spending time up there.

Awesome, you'll love it :)

If you require fellow geeks to catch up with in person occasionally, pretty sure those of us in the area will be happy to meet up for a brew or two :)

I'll believe it when I see it completed. It's started several times over the decades, but then... actually several more Utopia episodes spring to mind. For those not familiar with the series, it's a satire built around the Australian Nation Building Authority, a government quango that's just as effective in getting things done as assorted regional bodies have been over the years with getting Penlink sorted.

At least it's started now! [Penlink]?

Strictly speaking I don’t think that’s correct.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

They have told people its on its way. Like they did 20+ years ago.

Council purchased about 20 properties along Whangaparaoa Road to allow for road widening years ago. They just decided not to go ahead with it and all those properties are up for sale. Unless I got a really good price from the council at the time, I'd be a really ****** off home owner.
