richgamer: sure that's what i'm saying because what if the neighbours give their friends permission to help them move house, but the neighbours forgot to leave a key to the house, so the friends smashed a window to get in and started loading the property into a car, and they were in a rush so they ran into a car but before they got in their car, police tackled them and the friends hit their heads on the ground and got brain damage, then when the home owners come home they told police the people they arrested had permission to remove the stuff from the house, then the police would have made a false arrest and brain damaged a few ppl.

that's why u can't have police arresting ppl if the owner of the property hasn't called police or made a complaint.

After reading this, and your other replies, I have come to the conclusion that the reply I actually want to give you would be instant ban material (well, to be fair, I think it might get hidden, and Mauricio would issue me with a "WTF?", but I don't want to waste that on you.

For someone who posts so much about law matters, you seem to have no real clue about how the world, and law in general actually work.

My girlfriend throws a basketball at me when we're at a park and it didn't hurt but i wasn't expecting it and yelled out the word ouch. another person at the park calls the police and says a girl threw a ball at a guy and he said ouch so i think he's hurt. the boyfriend leaves his girlfriend to go to work and his girlfriend stays at the park. police come and arrest the girlfriend for throwing a ball at a guy, even though the boyfriend didn't make a complaint and the person who called police was just a random person at a park. Is that fair? No.

You seem to like thinking up these ridiculous scenarios involving the police and the law a lot. Have you considering maybe studying law or going on a police training course. IMHO It would clear up a lot of the doubts you seem to have. Really do you post this just to give us something to talk about ?

Scenario above : They won't do anything. Unless the boyfriend is going to press charges against the girlfriend (for a ball in the face lol). They'll follow an investigative process which involves talking to the boyfriend , girfriend and the witness but IDK anything will be done. There is far worse stuff happening all the time around the country. Think about it. It was a ball. To the face. Maybe a civil matter but not a criminal matter.'

Mods please lock this thread. It has far outlived it's usefullness.

I've witnessed it, and have had it happen to friends, so yes, it is possible. One incident in particular will be etched in my memory forever and has left me permanently distrustful of a large portion of our police force.

So you are saying you were at an address minding your own business when the police turned up and started tackling people to the ground for no reason?

That is correct.

Incident #1
A party. Yes, parties can get "rowdy", but this was a very, very mellow party, I can assure you. This was about 10 years ago... cops show up to inform the tenants there's been noise complaints. The just wandered in, and started bashing people, throwing them into walls, heck, one female friend of mine who ran upstairs was caught and the cop told her "I'm checking the rest of upstairs, if you're here when I get back, I'm throwing you down them".
I stayed out back of the house and didn't get touched, thankfully.
I invited two friends to the party... one was punched in the throat, dragged across concrete, thrown in a wagon and charged $250 for disorderly behavior. The other friend who protested at this behavior was told to "Just leave"... so he did... only to hear "you're not leaving quick enough", and was thrown head-first into a fence.
My understanding is that not one single complaint was upheld either.

Incident #2
A mate with a psycopathic girlfriend... 5am in the morning she decides she wants to go out drinking (leaving her daughter). She tries to climb out a window. Dude pulls her back in. Neighbours hear the kafuffle so they call the cops.
The police arrived alright... only to kick in his door, tackle him, and smash him in the throat with a truncheon.

That is correct.

Yeah I've been to several "peaceful parties" where it has been reported that nothing was wrong until the police showed up. The same people who tell this to the media always forget to mention that the police had already been there several times, numerous neighbours have complained about the noise/bottles being smashed/people urinating in their garden......

Anyway bcak on topic. What do you think about the priest? Should he be charged?

Yeah well there was none of that... I know these people, they're the nicest bunch you'll ever meet. No peeing in gardens. No yelling, just some (lame) trance music and some chit-chat. No cops came prior. I do not associate with rough and rowdy people and wouldn't have been at there if was one of "those" parties.

Noise control could have come around first. A warning would have been more appropriate than an all-out assault. Walking to the front and seeing good and decent people that I know clutching their bleeding heads and faces definately tipped me a bit to the left as far as respect for authority goes. Having been harrassed myself for no good reason only further cemented that. But that's another story and I've drifted even further off topic.

Anyway bcak on topic. What do you think about the priest? Should he be charged?

Absolutely. Anybody who defaces or damages somebody elses property should be put on trial.
