Having your details on the outside of the bag will enable the pharmacy staff to confirm your details without opening the bag which might contain medicines with potential abuse.
Another possibily why listing all your mess on outside rather than just the ones in bag would enable quick double check certain classes of drugs not doubled up and also make it easier to point out issues between drugs as that can be pointed out on list printed on bag if patient has questions about other medicines.
Many GP practuses have computerised prescribing software which also lists all the medicines that patient is on, not just the one that is prescribed and pharmacies can access them. This acts as another backup to pickup issues by pharmacy before dispensing so going to a different pharmacy would still show all your medicines on their system too. These systems can also be accessed by the hospital staff as demented Mrs x won't be able to tell you and in emergencies you might be too sick.
Yep, who cares. You can't trust your chemist, bank, doctor, lawyer, IRD and the many others that know a lot about you, including the myriad of loyalty cards many seem to have

IRD knew SFA about me apparently as I had moved house 20 years ago and they still had that address and ph number loaded against my name!
