How do I know if the plug that goes into the HP switch is the correct way round (is it called polarity?) that is where the negative and positive are? (Sorry a bit dumb on this sort of thing)

 

 

Your closeup image of the label shows that the centre pin is +ve. That's the most common so you should find that any generic ones have the same picture.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Thank you, and any amp rating as long it's 12V?

For all electrical stuff, I'd rather buy from actual physical shop.

Dodgy Chinese stuff appears of dodgy Trademe sites.

It's not like you are looking for something very difficult

This is pretty much guaranteed for any 12V supply, they can deliver at least that. And to the OP, I would definitely avoid the usual dodgy unsafe Chinese no-name stuff, but if you go with a good brand like Meanwell or Delta you'll be fine. Also anything that advertises itself as Class V or VI should be good, unless they're flat out lying about it you can't cut corners on those.
