MikeAqua:

  • Land in Wellington on a windy day.

  • Go to an All Black's test (one where it's close but we win)

  • Rub some meat in dirt and steam it - instant Hangi 'flavour'

  • Pub crawl in Dunedin

  • Lisa Lewis

  • Do a multiday tramp in Fiordland

Be careful what you wish for. Plane gasps and wheezes like the dying throes of Asthma and you need a sick bag handy.

West Coast of the South Island!!!!  For bonus points, swim in the Nile then confuse people who will assume Egypt rather than somewhere south of Westport.  At least one of the glaciers.

Stewart Island/Rakirua, Great Barrier Island.  Ironically despite spending most of my life in Wellington I've never done Somes Island or Kapiti...

Due to family involvement in the industry I've visited a fair few hydroelectric power stations and the aluminium smelter.  All worth it if you like that sort of thing and can still get tours.  I doubt ringing up the control room for a tour works these days - it did in the 90s.

I second/third the Whanganui river.  I've done a guided canoe trip, and a jetboat to the Bridge to Nowhere (track was closed when we did the canoe), and cycled from Pipriki back to Whanganui township on a DoC trip.  All worthwhile.

I've never been a bucket list person - when people ask me what mine is I always say "Got a red and a green, a yellow bucket would be nice too."

Only have  three left but very sadly I don't think I will get to do them.

1. Flight in Fighter Jet

2. Flight in a Spitfire

3. Visit my family home town Hillerød

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

@MikeAqua You must be related to or as crazy as my wife she loves flying into Wellington Airport on a rough day

I'm wishing it for others.  I've landed in Welly hundreds. maybe thousands of times.

Paid for a flight.  Got a free amusement park ride.

I like taking my boat/kayak out on roughish days too.

Walk at least one "Great Walk" in each Island.

Walk the Auckland "Coast to Coast" from Onehunga to the Viaduct including up to the One Tree Hill monument.

Catch, fillet, cook and eat a fish.

Visit Cape Reinga and Spirits Bay.

Drive from Picton to Invercargill using SH1, SH8, SH6.

Dolphin/Whale spotting in the Bay of Islands

Scuba dive or snorkel at Poor Knights Islands

Play a round of golf at Wairakei. Hand feed a fallow deer and spot a Takahe while at it.

  • Drenching a sheep.

I never would have seen that one coming...

Oh yeah, been there, done that, I'm a sheep farmer's daughter.

How about shearing a sheep, now that's tricky!

Not sure if a bucket list can include things that are clearly unable to be achieved now, but (like @Rikkitic) I have had one burning desire for about 50 years - to go into space - either briefly or for an extended time.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Some great stuff coming out here and yes sailing in the Sounds is a great addition (done it)

Obviously a lot of things aren’t possible for everyone, I’m mindful of those for example that might have limited mobility. Tasting Kina however- if you love seafood then don’t knock it till you’ve tried it. I describe it as tasting like the smell of the sea - that first scent you smell when you arrive at the beach and take a big sniff of the fresh air. Might be a problem for those that have issues with textures.

Helicopter ride over the alps or onto one of our glaciers anyone?

Nooooooo! We already have enough wind thieves getting in the way of people trying to fish 🤣

frankv:

  • Whanganui River canoe trip
  • Dinghy / Hobie cat sailing
  • Sitting in Hanmer Springs while it snows
  • OE
  • Fly camping in the bush
  • Driving on a beach

These are probably out of date now...

  • Drinking at a country pub under-age and/or after 10pm
  • Friday night up town with your mates
  • Sitting in Ketetahi hot springs
  • Calf club day
  • Tonning it (actually only got to 95) in Dad's car

Ketetahi hot springs - where you can choose your temperature by going further up or down the track then scaring your mates by discretely smothering yourself in the mud from the bottom of the pool and making yourself look like a mud monster?  Yus yus yus :)  Can you not still do that?

We are still pretty much a small country with agriculture as the backbone of our economy, so I feel it's nice for people to have at least some experience of things rural. I could have just as easily put milk a cow or drive a tractor, the point would be the same.
