Ummm, I get the gripes but....it's a free website.  I think some expectations need to be lowered a bit.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Free is all well and good, but I think the issue is more around functionality - my 2c, the old site worked perfectly fine (and was also free), why change what's not broken?

My main complaint is a few years ago they removed the Technology section from the front page; you have to dig around in the menu to find it. Surely the Technology section is just as important, if not more so, as the Lifestyle, Travel, Prosper, Homed and Neighbourly sections (all sections that I scroll straight past)?

This must have become an annual "let's change the page for the sake of change" thing. Tried going there this morning (in Firefox - my main browser) and it tries to load the page, but then starts reloading...and reloading...and reloading, in an infinite loop.

Trying in Edge and Chrome at first gives this error (then the page loads - or at least, I think it does):

"Stuffed up" is dead right - what genius decided to implement this crap without testing everything properly first? Is anyone else getting a nonstop loop in Firefox? The old page - while not perfect - worked, at least.

Maybe they were doing the changeover. Brand new website sporting purple, pale green and a bigger font on Safari.

No Technology section, not even in the sub menus.

What a load of crap. "Innovative"? Pull the other one. Time to change my homepage, I think.

Just loaded up stuff to see what the fuss is about and it is doing spam refreshes in front of me like every second and not stop, it is like a strobe light!

Still going after a couple of minutes left in another tab.

I noticed on new website that article pages had the photos slightly blurry/pixelated.
Once I created and logged into my account, the photos now load at full quality. Coincidence?

The self-applauded new Stuff mobile website is IMHO utterly dreadful. It opens with the animated 'S' for about 5 seconds then jumps to a full page advert. I can't bear to look at it.

Fail.

I bet they'll do like the Herald did a few years ago and say "we had so much positive feedback about our [unwanted, unrequested] changes! We'll leave the new page exactly as it is!"

Of course, the 6 positive feedback e-mails (somehow) over-ride the 40,000 negative ones 🙄

Did I wake up in 1995?

Who thought this was close to suitable web presence for a brand in 2024?

Welcome to my world! Is this in Firefox for you too?
This is a shambles.

Edit: just noticed on Eva's linked story above crowing about the wonderful new site that despite them being open earlier (I posted a comment), "Comments are closed on this story" - the text even says "leave me a comment below"! Maybe they weren't quite getting all the glowing praise they were expecting to get?

Opera on mobile - the page loads and then flicks across to the purple page with the animation. And stays there.

If I scroll, the purple moves up about 10mm, and I can see the page underneath with everything loaded scrolling. After the scroll stops, the purple jumps back down and covers everything.

What a disaster.
