vexxxboy:

sorry i just buy diced, and sliced Onions , so much quicker and no tears and they are not much dearer than unpeeled onions .

May I suggest you investigate the Aligator tool?

Other than the packaging saving, sometimes there are other things in those bags of onions other than onions to keep them from rotting.

We buy chopped onions for work bbqs but I’d never buy them for home. Someone put a few bags of chopped onions in the freezer at work once by accident along with some of the sausages. The boxes of icecream we also stored in there all had to be thrown out.

Icecream tasting like onions is extremely bad let me tell you.

I'm not convinced. Onion flavoured milk or ice cream seems like a great idea to me. I like drinking milk after eating onion.

If we keep garlic in our vegetable crisper it gets into the ice tray in the freezer. Garlic ice in your G&T?

Processed onions in a freezer quickly take on a rotten onion smell.  Allow an onion to go rotten in your garage.  Take that smell and apply it as a taste.  Lastly, air out or burn down your garage.

I'll take it down to the first unblemished white layer. Sometimes the white is transitioning to brown, or afflicted by handling damage etc - that layer is in the bin.

I'm a bit peculiar about food though so don't necessarily take my way as normal in such matters.
