Ok, found the listing. The funny thing is this morning I had found one of the covers that seals the Ethernet plug and had thought I’d contact him to see if he wanted me to send it up - one of the small parts of additional text that he’s added is to note that it’s missing! Somehow I don’t think I’ll bother now.

It’s also a bit weird he’s not even changed the wording where it says ‘I had them running on a Synology NAS’!

Not too surprised he’s removed the following paragraph - this is the kind of accurate info I provide on my listings which is why I set a $98 reserve; that he doesn’t bother including this can help justify his doubling of the price. What a tosser.

Cameras are in good condition. One junction box has some marking on the inside but this only happened after I uninstalled it (and is cosmetic only). There are some small scratches on the outside of one of the dome covers. Unsure if this is picked up when using the IR lights, however either way I would recommend avoiding using IR at night as I had issues with fogging that I couldn't fully get rid of.

Maybe, but saying a type 1 connector can do 3 phase shoes they don't have a clue.

So I'm wondering whether it's worth me doing anything about this?

I guess I could do one or more of:

  • revise my feedback on the new seller to record what he's done (my biggest issue being the removal of any information on the condition/performance), but I'm sure that'll result in retaliatory feedback (and I have 100% positive at the moment)
  • leave a comment on the auction, but that'll only show if he replies
  • report it to TM, but on what basis? Misleading potential owners, given he knows of quality issues but hasn't informed potential buyers, isn't terribly ethical but also probably doesn't break TM Ts and Cs
  • just leave it be.

Any thoughts on the best COA?

gzt: I admire the sentiment but, all this is not much different to the old secondhand dealers visiting garage sales. There's no so many these days.

Correct but back in the days it was much harder to be based in Auckland and buy up items in say Christchurch. Sure there was an equivalent guy in every city but it was harder.

Now someone can sit on the couch and clean up any auction whenever in the country/world.

No it's better for the seller now. Previously the dealers would hit the garage sales early and get the bargains. Now they have to bid at auction (unless there is a buynow but then the seller gets what they wanted).

It's much harder to pick up real bargains now as everyone in the whole country sees the item for auction and can bid.

Only by paying more than anyone else.

What I noticed when I wanted a second Smart Modem before 2nd hand ones became common was the guy on TradeMe who had a buy now price about 3x what Spark were charging. I did overhear somebody in Bunnings once telling a friend that he bought in bulk some cheap item there and resold at a Sunday market @$4 profit each.

The only time I have problem with it is when a professional dealer gives a false valuation when buying.

There's a guy on TM that just re-sells seconds whiteware from the Noel Leeming outlet.

There is a guy "in Trade" who sells New Apple gear at prices 20% higher than new from Apple, then charges shipping on top

Don't they whack 2 phases into the type 1 connector giving it 400v? Seems like that would be the most logical thing to do inorder to get more power out of the supply.

It would be very interested to know what sort of volumes he sells. There are some very naive people out there, and I wouldn't be surprised if this is actually quite a lucrative business.

Just leave it..... I can understand this happens often.

I've already left some questions about his experience using them on 'his' NAS ;).

Next Question would be asking if he would "sell these for $98, like the pervious few weeks of this listing was"..... haha.

I just don't need any more cameras..... I don't want to have to upgrade to a 32ch NVR...

Watermarking your photos will make this kind of trade just a little harder.

I remember when TradeMe automatically water marked images to your username.

What happened to that on TradeMe?

A guy bought several TV Boxset DVDs off me a couple of years ago - I'd relisted some a few times before they sold. A week later he'd listed them for twice what he paid and bugger me, a few of them sold 😡

Ever heard of capitalism? These people are doing nothing wrong. Were you happy with the price you achieved? Good, so your argument is based upon what? You do realise that once you accept payment for the goods that they are no longer yours - and that as an ex-owner you have precisely zero claim over them?

To justify this point of view, you need to add a condition to the original sales contract - & probably adjust your price downwards to compensate for the loss of opportunity. Following the same vein of thought - how accommodating will you be when the new owner contacts you, complaining that they weren't able to get their money back on resale?

Without this type of entrepreneurial spirit, this country would be a lesser civilisation.
