In-N-Out burgers are delicious. They have a very limited menu but the burgers are the best. Why Wellington? Teasers. But, queues will be huge.
Fergburger, meh, they are what you'd expect for the price, nothing more. I don't get the hype, other than probably you know you will get a decent burger at least.

It's not a teaser. They're not trying to work out if they are interested in opening a store there - they already know the answer, they don't.
The reason they open these stores is simple - because to retain a trademark, you must "use it or lose it". They open a one day popup every couple of years just so that they don't lose their trademark, and if someone else tries to open a store called "In-N-Out", they can sue it into the ground - as they recently did in Queensland with a company called "Rich Asians" who opened a store blatantly copying the look and feel (without copying the quality control or experience) and to a store in Sydney called Down-N-Out burger.

Amongst other things, yes.
They're from a rough part of Boston and are known to have been involved in a lot of unpleasantry as kids. Drugs, violence, etc.
Typical "gang-type" stuff. Wider family are also apparently quide shady, but there's loads of stuff on the internet

If you want to have a burger that will blow your mind in Auckland... Flaming Onion.
3 different branches, but I do recommend takeaway as the dine-in fitout is rubbish.
Tiger Burger is also awesome, but until you've seen the heart attack on a plate that is Flaming Onion, then you haven't seen an OTT hamburger!
MikeB4: Not something I would go after. Burgers are too much food for me and when I have tried them I have ended up deconstructing them in order to eat what could. I cannot open my jaw wide enough to bite them due to fusion in my jaw.
I have never found the overall taste of burgers to that inviting.
I have a perfectly functional jaw and burgers that can't be picked up and eaten as burgers are a bug-bear of mine.
At that point you're not serving a burger, it's a bread salad.
Burgerfuel's doofers pushed the limits of what was possible but even then I always ended up wearing more of it than I ate.
@Dunnersfella Flaming Onion does awesome food. I lived near one a few years back and pleased I moved further away from it was making me broke and fat! lol
There are a few gourmet burger joints near where WB is opening, so it'll be interesting after the fuss dies down to see how well they can sustain the business...
Not to mention all the restaurants who also do designer eat-in burgers

Fergburger was decent but nothing spectacular imho.
I enjoyed Fergburger. It was much better than McDs etc. Unlike 'Big Burger 'Companies' offerings, it was a reasonable sized burger. It was nice but it wasn't anything special and they included an ingredient I asked them to leave out. I wouldn't queue for it again.
I've noticed that you used to be able to smell when Ferg's were grilling burgers. You can't now and I wonder if they've switched from charcoal to gas or something.
Mike
We need a burger venue thread. Pics of the burgs or it didnt happen!
Jax out Botany Junction is also a weapon burger
Whalburgers was average when I had it in Brisbane, would expect here will be another rinse and repeat of the other stores.

Speaking of In-N-Out...
I have tried most of the more popular chains in the US. Tastes will vary, but these burgers are so overrated I was shocked. Comparatively Shake Shack and 5 Guys, in that order were considerably better. Having said that, smash burgers are all the rage and despite having tried many many over the past couple of years, I can honestly say, I've really only enjoyed 2-3. I do prefer my burgers with some acidity like tomato to balance out carbs, meat and cheese, to which there is a limited way you can differentiate your burger from anyone elses.
I understand why (differentiation) there are so many burger places and so much variety in toppings, but honestly, at this point, it's getting pretty OTT.
Right now I believe the best burger in NZ is the Burger Fuel Hybrid Burger which is an amazing riff on the Kiwi Burger from McDonalds.
jonathan18: My vote’s for Lord of the Fries - great choice of burgers for those not keen on consuming meat, ranging from those aimed at replicating meat (my son loves the phish burger) to solid vege burgers. We’ve eaten at the K Road and Cuba St stores, and were frustrated to find the Queenstown store had closed when we were down there in January.
[Awaits for snide comments from meat-eaters…]
I was quite disappointed that my vegan burger didn't have a single vegan in it :)
(One of the best burgers I've had in my life was a mushroom burger).
