I had my PSVR2 delivered last week. The courier knocked the door and left it on the door mat. I was on a work call but hung up and went down to collect it as I knew a signature was required. Caught him by surprise as he was getting back in his van.

The conversation went like this

Courier driver: Oh, since you're home you may as well sign this then.

Me: And what if I wasn't home?

Courier driver: Shrug

Me: Well if that's the case then I won't sign for it

Courier driver: Whatever

We have had two with Courier Post, Signature Required, one with my full name and one with my wife's first name, both with tracking number. On both cases the courier did not ring the doorbell but left them on the front porch.  When I went to the tracking site, there is an image of the signature, and both had been signed for by the courier. Complained to NZ Post and the courier rang and waited for next delivery, so complaining sometimes works.

We don't even get that service.  They drive up to the letterbox and put a card in it saying we were not home and off they drive again.

Had that happen a number of years back. I was home and saw the guy put the card straight in the mailbox before I could get to a door, called his depot up immediately and he had to come back. Found out later he was formally disciplined for it (small town).

We get NO ATL stickers from nzpost to put on more valuable things that should override anyone having an ATL at the property. They seem to work so far.

Had that and all the excuses a number of years ago. "Nobody home", "Parcel too big for letterbox". I complained and was actually told their drivers had better things to be doing than delivering my mail. This was pre-CCTV times, but I knew it was BS. They said they'd put a note to always deliver our mail. The very job they're paid to do!

They were actually just putting the cards in with our normal mail. There was no delivery attempt.

But, my new passport was delivered to my front door by courier post the other day, without the driver asking for my signature.

Does the tracking show someone signed for them?

If so, Section 228 of the Crimes Act 1961 might be worth a read.

I don't have access to the tracking, so I have no idea. Presumably they signed it 'atl', authorisation to leave, like they always do.

Since the start of covid, signature required deliveries have been left at my front door without being asked to sign.

But, my new passport was delivered to my front door by courier post the other day, without the driver asking for my signature.

Is this the same for other people? That couriers are not asking for signatures on deliveries that are required to have them?

None of mine are being left by NZ post. They are all getting taken to the post office. So maybe they have permission to leave on your property.

For passports your letter will have a purple NO ATL sticker. DIA will be interested to know if this was not adhered to. Obviously there are large implications if this is not followed.

ATL expires every 12 months and needs to be renewed or else it lapses.

I get a letter every 12 months with a code from NZ Post. I can enter code into web site if wish to change instructions.

If do nothing the ATL continues.

I guess we all have to lobby the minster responsible for the crown entity which is nz post to see why nz post is always struggling.

seems to me like they ain’t paying enough so the contractors are pushed for time to get the job done so they get paid.

mind you, imagine if they were privately owned…..  we’ve already got issues with those other company’s that are privately owned.

ok, maybe we just live with it.

hahah
