Since the start of covid, signature required deliveries have been left at my front door without being asked to sign.

But, my new passport was delivered to my front door by courier post the other day, without the driver asking for my signature.

Is this the same for other people? That couriers are not asking for signatures on deliveries that are required to have them?

yip, but tbh it has been like this even before COVID - I have never signed for a parcel even if the "signature required" option is selected and paid for it.

When asking for POD, it has the driver's name on it, or an X or signatory unavailable or various other reasons.

Couriers do not care they are not paid enough to care! Signature required means ZERO!!

You got your courier parcel move on and forget about it only worry about it when an item goes missing

Sounds your courier driver is the issue...

From my personal experience - when we got our passports done late last year - our courier asked for signatures every time (we did 4 passports that came in 3 batches). On one of the deliveries I just missed him by about 5 mins (walking back from school drop off) but did manage to speak to him via our video door bell - he wasn't going to deliver it without a signature.. manage to catch up to him further down our street..

I understand DIA requires signature upon delivery for all passports, which is understandable seeing as it's such an important document.. so they probably wouldn't be too happy to hear the courier isn't doing this.

Courierpost dont even come down our drive anymore, they always dump stuff in the letterbox (if it fits).

Aramex have been good though, they tend to knock at the door etc.

We don't even get that service. They drive up to the letterbox and put a card in it saying we were not home and off they drive again.

I figure they are wearing the risk. If it is signiture required and they don't get a signiture then your claim is easy to prove.
It's if you are disputing the signiture it will be harder for you...

I notice the only courier post ones that insist on siguatures for my house is Samsung....

A passport should have a big red "signature absolutely required" (or words to that effect) on it, and that should override ATL.

I believe this is the case.

I checked the last tracking, and, the courier signed the package "ATL", authorisation to leave.

There is no ATL in place for my property though.

My question is answered though, seems to be pretty common.

You totally sure? How long have you been in your place? Any ATL previously setup (with CourierPost at least) will automatically roll over (even with new owners on the property) unless it's actually cancelled.

My daughters passport turned up on my doorstep 3 or 4 days after we ordered it... no signature . My son's passport should be turning up tomorrow, will see what happens :)

The current system is preferable, I am covered if the courier doesn't get my signature and my goods also arrive more quickly if I am not home.

Several years back a courier lost my signature required package for which they had self signed. I claimed insurance, but late last year the neighbour bought over my package saying they just found it, was placed on a shelf in their garage they don't use haha.

I phoned NZ post, no ATL. There hasn't been an ATL for the 15 years we've lived here.

Does the tracking show someone signed for them?

If so, Section 228 of the Crimes Act 1961 might be worth a read.
