Congrats
Congrats from another who gone affirmed last week!
Lovely ceremony except for the bit where someone requested to take the oath of allegiance in Te Reo......
The councillor doing the "repeat after me".... Eeek that was toe-curling.
Congrats mate! our application is going in at the end of this year!
out of interest, where you from before landing in kiwiland?
Thank you all for the congratulations. Enjoyed the ceremony. Was held at the Horowhenua district council, and we were 30 people getting our citizenship yesterday.
To @Silvrav that was wondering where I am from: I am from Norway, moved to New Zealand about 10 years ago.
@Geektastic - yes, thought the whole process of applying for citizenship was very straight forward, and that applying for permanent residency was a lot harder.
@Mehrts - oh, what a wasted opportunity. Next time?! :D
Next step now is passport, and that is laughably easy (do it all online, and can even take your own passport photo). When dealing with the Norwegian passport I have had to go to a police station to do all the work to get a passport. And for me I have had to do a rigamarole with the Norwegian Embassy in Canberra and the Norwegian Consulate to be able to get my passport. Which involves making sure they don't invalidate my current passport in Norway, get the new passport sent to Canberra. Send my current passport to the consulate, and then have them deal with getting me the new passport with the appropriate stickers in it (Permanent Residency Visa).
So will be much easier to get and renew the New Zealand passport, for sure.

Now I know you Vikings have a thing for raping and pillaging when visiting foreign shores. Expect you will tone this down now eh? 😇

That's another example of "we don't know how lucky we are"
Most kiwis probably imagine that getting another country's passport renewal is as quick, easy, smooth and frictionless as it is here. Spoiler alert: it's not
Like paying your tax. The majority of under-50 kiwis have never ever had to fill in a personal tax return, and probably consider that the normal state of being. Not so in other jurisdictions: that annual wrestle with the ATO, HMRC or the dreaded IRS keeps many, many Personal Tax Professionals - a breed almost unknown in NZ - in highly profitable employment

Well played Jarle.
I became a citizen of this fine land alongside my wife last year, after living here for nearly 50 years.
It's a surprisingly easy thing to do - as you say: fill in the forms, pay the money, wait a long time and BOOM! You're a Kiwi!
Congratulations - I envy you doing the pledge thing...we were still covered by the Covid anti-gathering rules, so we just got mailed our certificates.
