Yep I have ordered literally hundreds of items via Ali over the years - 30 this year so far.
Some have missed their due delivery dates - I have raised a dispute/refund request on these and 9 out of 10 have been settled satisfactorily IME.
I've also got a package that has been tagged as Pending border clearance since 16 March.
Regarding disputes I've had a couple where items didn't arrive and aliexpress always paid out.

Do all packages get processed in customs at the same lead time no matter the cost of the postage?
I'm sure I've had packages from Aliexpress that I ordered recently that did not get stuck in customs.
I've very curious about this too - does NZ Post officially prioritise mail from certain, more 'premium' carriers, or is it all in my head?
I used to think that paying for more expensive shipping off Ali would only help in terms of getting it as far as NZ, then after that, everything was the same, but have I been delusional all these years?

NZ Post used to publish on their site that they targeted three-day delivery irrespective of source. I don't know if they still do, but I have been told that non-express items I was waiting on were put on a five-day delivery cycle. I should note that when I raised this, they had already missed that target by some margin. So no, it's not in your head and they have acknowledged this.
Update RE my most recent dispute. Item MIA since January.
Lodged yesterday (or maybe Sunday?).
Seller responded last night with "Please wait a bit more" (stalling?).
I rejected that and Aliexpress are refunding me now.
Many recent Aliexpress items have arrived within a week or two so Im 99.999% sure this one will never turn up.

There has been a change of late. Ali parcels seem to come through on a Courier level of service (as opposed to Economy).
I have disputed on two occasions and received money back.
One order was cancelled by the seller before they even shipped it, no idea why but I got my money back.
Another order in 2021 was sent and had apparently gone through NZ customs before it fell off the radar. Never received the parcel and NZ post said it was not in their system. I also got a refund.
A positive note from today is that I received an order I placed 9 days ago.

AliExpress is pushing more people towards their shipping services. I expect they took a huge hit during COVID, when China Post packages were slowly being returned several weeks after orders were placed. Cainiao (also part of Alibaba) and AliExpress Standard seem to be the default options for most things now.

@openmedia. Was this also Czech Post?
I contacted NZ Post over the weekend about three Czech Post packages that are supposedly pending clearance, once since mid-February. Unsurprisingly, I've not had a response. It shouldn't take three-plus days to acknowledge a request and give some indication of where the problem is and what they're doing to resolve it.

Dochart: @SirHumphreyAppleby how did you contact NZpost? Might be better to contact them through twitter instead of email or calling.
I used the Parcel enquiry form on their Website. I used Facebook in the past, but I have closed that account. Their responses weren't particularly helpful there either.

Same here. Pending boarder clearance since Feb.
I've lost hope.
I've noticed that both of the packages from Prague, Czech Republic are stuck at the boarder. (although arriving at different dates)
Wonder if it's a lost container or warehouse.
