Hmmm lol DO let us know if you get that invoice paid ! I think there'd be a few people following that path.  My phone is also used to receive calls for work and it's kinda critical work also in some ways so I can't really ignore calls.  I don't recall ever getting a private number call but it could happen - that's why I have set it to go to voice mail automatically in the event of a private call - so that they can at least leave me a message if its a genuine call.

Four phone calls in the past week. Two today within 30 mins!

One number private and the others were from 03 number.

Could barely understand the English on one call.

While I can ignore the 03 call it's a work phone and I need to answer all private calls.

I'm going to invoice them for each call. Won't do anything but keeps me amused I guess.

Bixby is your friend :D I've started using it for certain calls that come through.... they can talk to my phone before talking to me :)

Or other option is to ring them and pretend to be a lawyer representing you, and advise if they do not stop, a harassment case will be lodged.

It doesn't have to be 'illegal' to be reported.

It is made very clear by netsafe and the telecommunication association that 'nuisance' calls are to be investigated and potentially actioned as agreed upon by the industry.

Oh look. It includes telemarketing...

They called your work phone?  That'll make it easy for you to call your provider and lodge a complaint.

Well.......they have complete legal right to call ANY phone.  So that's a fail.  And actually the phone is mine and it's also used for Work purposes.  They pay me a tiny amount to use my own phone while at work and on call.

From that website:

  • Report the phone calls to your provider and they may be able to investigate further for you and also have the number blocked.
  • If you are receiving the calls to your mobile handset and you no longer wish to receive them you can block the number via your settings menu on your handset.

Well they call from multiple numbers and they also commonly block the caller ID so blocking the number is difficult.  Also yeah I"ve just set all 'Private call' numbers, (those with no caller id), to go to voice mail now.  It's working for me so far.

logo: Signed up for an online competition a year ago. Got a phone call saying I hadn't won but I could get a great deal on some other items. Told them I wasn't interested and thought that was it.

I'm wondering what linked you to the signup. Was it a clickthrough advertising? Any reputable site will want to add that to their blocklist.

The previous posts indicate it is an NZ company. The continuing calls are basically illegal under NZ law as I understand it with potentially very large fines per affected person.

No wait that's if you actually buy something or tell them to leave in a door to door scenario. This comcom article mentions telemarketing calls with no purchase as being equivalent yet does not provide a specific example

Yes but in the circumstances of both the OP and myself, and many others, we entered a competition. You can guarantee that in the T & C's we have agreed to 'receive marketing promotions' so effectively we have agreed to receive these calls.....

It seems that they can just ignore any request to stop . Perhaps the only way to be more forceful would be to send them a Lawyer's letter.

I don't think you need to get a lawyer involved at this stage. I would just send them something in writing stating that you are withdrawing your consent for them to contact you, and that you will seek damages for the consequential losses arising from changing your phone number if the harassment doesn't stop.

Well I did indeed message them and followed your advice:  "something in writing stating that you are withdrawing your consent for them to contact you, and that you will seek damages for the consequential losses arising from changing your phone number if the harassment doesn't stop. "

I"ve had a message back saying they will remove me from their list and put me on the DNC list (Do Not Call).  Little boy waits now because they've said this before.  I'm just hoping that the wording helped to shake their tree.....

Thanks for that suggestion.
