Paul1977:

I have no inside knowledge of their review policy, but we know this product has had at least 1 negative review and the assumption would have to be 0 positives. It's misleading at best when it says the product has no reviews.

I don't know the history of this model, it could be a recent item. There are other Tapo bulbs with average reviews >4 stars. I would expect a working example of this one to be similar.

This is a good reminder to everyone really reading this thread:

Everyone has the right to freedom of expression.

No one has the right to freedom from consequences.

The more people who understand this, the better the internet would be in general.

I.e. You are free to write a negative review, PBtech are free to ignore it.

Every on-line retailer will vet reviews before the publish them. If you want a truly independent review then you just need to look to other sites.

Yep have given PB Tech the chance to repair it (invoice thingy here https://imgur.com/f3TgBLv) but they said they cant so I just asked for refund. But regardless based on this post replies, I dont think one star declined reviews count as a entry in their review your latest product and win $100 gift card event but at least now I know for products sold in PB site , always check out other sites for reviews as PB doesnt allow one star reviews so cant see if customers that bought that item experience any faulty issue. I guess this is their way of marketing.

I think there should be a stronger push back against allowing companies to hide marketing under the guise of genuine customer reviews.

It's always telling when one site has a product with glowing reviews and another absolutely tanks. Yet they're both called reviews.

Not saying there should be no right to curation or blocking abuse of the review system. But effectively letting customers write your marketing briefs for you and deleting honest feedback is not that .

The cats well out the bag, but that doesn't mean the current state of product "reviews" is right.

Just to balance this, I have tapo bulbs all thru my house and they are good...  I do have issues maybe once a month but I think this is more down to whatever infrastructure is in the cloud/internet than the bulbs themselves...
I used to have to reset bulbs regularly when I first got them but havent had to do that now for a long time.  Issues now seem to resove themselves within an hour at most.

Apologies for double post. Mobile is hard mode for posting.

What about when all sites start doing this, or they feign legitimacy by allowing a small amount of bad reviews through to try to appear honest.

Review in most consumers minds probably doesn't mean positive reviews only, it's very hard to argue that it isnt intentionally misleading about the quality of goods on sale

Report to the ComCom.

Lane Neave, a widely respected NZ law firm, states "Misleading online reviews will contravene the FTA and expose an individual to a fine of up to $200,000 or a body corporate to a fine of up to $600,000.".

PB has already been done for breaches of the FTA in the past, so this really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

Looking at Tapo products there are several with 1 star reviews. One reviewer couldn't get something to work with his iPhone 11 and another couldn't get all features to work with his Android phone. No indication in either that it was the Tapo product that was lacking or the phone app. Possibly the apps were updated after the reviews. It is not as simple as PB just not allowing 1 or 2 star reviews.

Anyone who believes on-line reviews posted on the supplier/providers site is a mug.

Exactly. It’s only in rare circs that you can put any weight on them.

Hi OP

We have investigated and this review triggered our ‘customer service issue’ automated filter as it featured the word ‘refund’. We have now manually reviewed and approved the review as it met our guidelines.

We’ve also asked our customer service team to follow up re your refund request.

If you look around our site you can see we publish thousands of reviews that are critical of the products we sell. The team here who manages our website works hard to create an online shopping experience that we ourselves would value as shoppers, and genuine reviews are part of that. In fact, internally when we are asked to recommend products for customers many of us often look at previous customer reviews to make recommendations.

FYI - the reviews we don’t approve are off topic (talk about subjects other than the product), mention the price the customer paid or have profanity in it. Everything else should be approved.

Thanks, PB

IMO reviews of the product should include the outcome of what you wanted. Its too early to post a review until you have got the replacement or refund. At that point you review the product as it works after the shop has been given an opportunity to resolve the issues you may have had with the supplied one.

Almost as bad as all the aliexpress reviews which are worthless "looks ok but haven't used it yet" 5 star ones.

There's an entire subreddit dedicated to Amazon reviews.
Some of them are hilarious, simply by being one-star reviews with comments like "I don't have this but it looks rubbish", or similar.
