Temu (and Aliexpress) Games are fake. Some are excellent fakes, so can be difficult to tell.

Here is a thread on BoardGameGeek about it - including responses from one publisher: [COUNTERFEIT] (temu.com, from China) Parks Nightfall expansion : under $12 or lesser with 30% off and free shipping coupons | BoardGameGeek

Boardgames are a creative work, with smaller runs and higher costs than you might imagine. They are labours of love often - not buying legit copies truly does harm the makers of them.

mattwnz: the NZ retailer is just buying from the same source but charging significnatly more for.

The technical term for this is dropshipping.  Also if you're referring to TM the "NZ retailer" isn't, they're just using a dummy address in NZ but are located in China.  One sure giveaway is if, no matter how much they've disguised everything else, the shipping time is given as 7-15 days, that's a Chinese dropshipper no matter what their profile says.

And so the enshittification of TM proceeds apace.

Clothing is one of those things I prefer to go local for - I can return if the sizing ends up being egregiously wrong (sometimes an L really feels more like an M - I'd love it if I could fit those again, but today is not that day! Thanks, Kmart).

I always buy quality good branded clothing and footware from local online stores when they have sales. Places of Kathmandu etc. Although many other NZ online stores are probably operated out of Australia but they do seem to have local warehouses. Kmarts prices are pretty good for some thing and sometimes buy from it, but they are also Australian owned. But I did buy some clothing from a Christchurch online store recently and  there was a problem and the service was just so bad, and a month later I am still trying to get it sorted.

In the case I was thinking about, it is a local bike store that is selling cycle tech. But that manufacturer actually has an official store under the brand (it is a chinese brand) on Aliexpress and they sell the same items for a fraction of the price.  eg a product that the NZ store sells for $150, I can get the identical product on  Aliexpress for about $35 including GST delivered. I found you can also get Eufy products through Eufys store quite a bit cheaper than you can get them in NZ.

There's usually customer care & warranty that is why NZ stores charge more for it...

Thats great when they come thru with service, but IME most of them act like you are stealing their childs dinner when you expect them to refund you for something that was junk.

Customer care and warranties might be an issue for something of value, but unless I'm feeling particularly argumentative, I'm not going to waste half an hour (and petrol) taking a $10 part downtown to replace or refund if it didn't perform as expected.

I figure Aliexpress and Temu are fine for cheap things that you hope will work well enough, but are not going to worry too much if they don't. I took a punt on some bimetal blades for my multitool (6 for $10) that have worked fine, and just one of them has lasted at least as long as the $30 for 1 blade sold at a store here.

And to be honest, I've had great success with Aliexpress refunds over the years - less fuss than having to drive downtown and argue with someone in a store.

Ah, so you too have had to deal with JB Low Pay customer "service".
