Bung: Are you saying that nothing seemed broken but the rope came off the crank? Sooner or later the rope will break where it is exposed to UV. I'd be surprised if it wasn't possible to reattach the rope.

The rope is pretty shielded from UV as it's under the canvas. 

I was surprised that they didn't opt for the option to fix it as with the right tools, and the giant umbrella on a working table - one could just re-attach the rope to the crank.
