There is also the PowerShield PSDCMIN1218 Mini UPS

Does that beep when the power is out? Beeping is my nemesis.

I don't actually have one, so can't say. Was just throwing ideas out there.

It does look like the best idea for the ONT's with the Molex plug.

You could also hit up Chorus for an extra power supply if you wanted a fresh plug to play with

That's unfortunate. I bought a unit from them about 3 weeks ago and was considering getting another one!

Did you get it - Companies Register documents at link in thread suggests stopped trading in 2023?

Yeah. At the time there was no indication from the website that anything was amiss, and Wayne sent me a personal email to say it was on the way.

I was also a Constant Vigil user.  The notion of having a UPS at 12 volts vs the conventional 230 volts appealed to be as ideal where the devices to be protected where ONTs and Routers.  Laptops have their own batteries, other 230 volt appliances we could do without if electricity supply failed.

However a number of factors changed this:

  1. We did away with the landline.  One of my Constant Vigil units had a 6 volt DC supply to drive a cordless phone.
  2. Our core data usage is low.  In a power outage, support of heavy data users at Fibre speeds is not a priority.
  3. Constant Vigil units have no way of evaluating battery health.  There is no way to assess if an electricity supply failure occurs, the battery backup will work.

Accordingly I moved to using mobile phone hotspots with decent power banks at the ready.  Easily deployed as needed with no additional hardware, but dependent on mobile data being available.

Bummer. That would explain why I haven't heard back about a replacement battery cable.

Eaton have just launched a similar device on to the NZ market - with selectable voltages.

Rather odd given that they undertook to IRD in October 2023 that they had stopped trading.

I just received one of these.

The molex plug does not connect directly to the UPS cable.

It needs something in between. One of these, the white and blue ones "fit". Do you think it matters?

The other end of the molex adaptor.

If the blue one fits, use it. It has a smaller diameter inner hole, so will make better (or any) contact.

I bought it from PBTech, and they don't know which one to use. Neither are they interested in finding out, and have put the onus back on me.

EDIT: I've emailed Powershield Australia to see if they know.
