What would I do? Not be so naïve next time on Facebook marketplace to do this.

Yes - have to think the OP set himself up for this - the 'buyer' almost certainly took advantage of the situation and had no intention of making the donation. If OP had tried what I suggested earlier and taken the $50 to donate later, the 'sale' would most likely never have taken place with that 'buyer'.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Sure, both of you may be correct, but there are potentially (definitely!) nicer ways of expressing this with at least an element of empathy.

Just come across this short skit on if Facebook Marketplace was real life market. So accurate lol.

Yep I've decided Facebook Marketplace is very hit and miss and weird even. When clearing out my parents place, I had a guy who paid upfront via bank deposit for an exceedingly large cabinet with sliding glass doors that I had been concerned about getting rid of. However, despite my hounding him over a couple of weeks and advising that the house needed to be vacant by the following weekend, he never arrived to collect it and told me just to keep the money! Fortunately the Sallies decided they would take it.

Some people on Facebook Marketplace are just repeat scammers who can't help themselves. They don't care about taking other people's money and not providing the item, and I bet Meta does next-to-nothing about it - with so many users it's way too hard to police.

This is where Trademe is better, at least if things go south you have some (local) recourse.

Why are people still paying for Facebook market place items in advance before they have the item?
