an option may simply be to buy an adjustable temperature controlled kettle, like the mentioned, and NOT boil the water. a lot of uses for hot water does not required boiled water, it only requires hot water which is much quieter to do.

My kettle makes the most annoying noise well before a boil.

Kmart had a .9l kettle on Clearnce for about $10 the other week.

I got one and it is essentially silent. Can't see it online but if one is close by might be worth checking out.

Was it the blue one to match the 1 slice toaster? Noisy still.

Yep blue one. Disagree about the noise - its so quiet. Could be variable quality control though?

What about a pot on an induction hob ?
Get a pot that doesn't have a rattly lid.

A good multi-element hob could put 3 kW into the job - while a simple single-element unit will only be 2 kW (same as a kettle). Assuming no fan noise (to keep the induction unit cool) - this should be relatively silent.

A gas hob would avoid the cooling fan...

But neither has an auto-off function.

The other is a low wattage kettle, but it only heats 0.9 litres of water and is only 1200W and pricey for what it is. This one was recommended to me by someone https://toasted.co.nz/products/fellow-corvo-ekg-kettle  So it probably heats as quickly as a normal 1.8 Litre jug, but only heating half the water. I have heard they are quieter because they are putting less energy into the water. But anyone tried one?

We have this kettle and I love it. No annoying sounds when it is done boiling, and you can set the exact temperature you want. Quick to boil the water too.

You can hear the water boling once it is getting around 70 degrees though. So not completely silent.

Can find it cheaper than where you linked to. This is one place that have it (I bought it from them). As I write this, they charge $278 NZD for it.
