Darn Tough are a good brand, usually heavier weight. Interesting they're at The Warehouse, I thought they were a premium brand. Icebreaker Merino I found wouldn't hold their shape or stay up.

Sorry to Hijack, but I am keen to find a set of nice, comfortable, good quality socks for work. Office work, with nicer shoes. They don't need to be thick, I don't want them too hot, but warm enough.  Plain Black would be good.

Under Armour Adult Elevated Performance Crew Socks. I bought 12 pairs, wearing them every day they lasted 2 years - 60 wears each on average. Once they wore out I threw them away and bought more. Only available from the US, the ones you can get here are a different model I didn't like.

For warm weather I like Danish Endurance. They have a decent range but I've only tried this model.

I've managed to hole the Darn Tough brand darn quickly.

I manage to hole cheap socks within 2 months.

I wear steel cap semi-dress shoes daily for work, so that may affect sock resilience .

Warehouse Tradie brand have been the longest lasting by far.

Good heel and toe thickness, stays up and have a looser knit for the calf shank so it doesn't get too hot and sweaty.

A good 3 years for my first half dozen, and still in regular rotation.

Washed in a net laundry bag, and hung to dry in the garage .

I think our UV sunlight weakens many things elastic, so hence drying in the garage .

I’ve worn these for more than 18 months with no sign of wear.

I wear the US brand Darn Tough (Vermont) for hiking and have found them quite good. They have a warranty but never had to use it.

not sure what the relationship is with the warehouse.

Most comfortable winter wear sock I have in my collection is The Ugly Possum  - possum-merino blend sock.

I source them from the Weft factory shop which is centrally located in Christchurch - but they are available from a number of retailers and online sites (at some apparent mark-up by the looks of the retail pricing).

These are not business or casual style socks - the clue is in the name re visual appeal.  However, they are thick and very very comfortable.

Made from a blend of possum, merino, and polypropylene - great for boots, but maybe too thick for shoes.  No holes in mine yet after use in boots, gumboots, and being worn around the house sans footwear.

These socks make my Macpac tramping socks seem a bit light and thin ...

+1 for the warehouse tradie brand. The original ones I bought over a year ago are still going strong.

I buy Bonds socks at Dress Smart in christchurch when they are on special. A cheap price for a really long lasting sock.

I have also purchased these and found them great, the most recent 3 pack I bought were thicker than they previously were and are very comfortable and long lasting. Have been meaning to go back and grab some more as I always find myself grabbing this type from my drawer first.

Thanks. Unfortunately, they won't ship here for some reason.

Huh, weird. Must have changed since I got mine. I like the Under Armor socks enough that if I had to use a reshipping service I would, but it would be the third time I got the same product. I wonder if Amazon AU has them.

Might be out of stock, maybe they stopped making them. I purchased one pair of about ten different types of socks before I settled on those.

These ones are somewhat similar. They're a slightly different composition, no cotton (which absorbs moisture so you don't really want it) or spandex but it has elastine so might be worth a shot.

Thorlo used to make a fantastic dress sock, but they discontinued it. These ones look pretty good, but they're US$20 per pair.

I'd read great stuff about the Darn Tough socks, but then found that the ones sold at The Warehouse are not related to the ones with the great reputation.

I'll have a look into some of the recommendations you've all given - but can already rule out Katmandu and MacPac since I've tried them and while the lasted longer, still not nearly as long as I'd reasonably expect for the cost.

They have the tech crew sock on their nz site - not sure if that is the same.  Wonder if they have them in their NZ outlet stores.
