Behodar:

Everyone I know pronounces it like an alpine parrot made by Apple. Is that not right?

Everyone in an english speaking country. Although they use the more Swedish pronunciation of the name in adverts in the UK, maybe they will here too?

This was a good one to hear how the swedes pronounce it:

I'll be really interested to see how close our prices are to the AUD prices when they launch.

Based on some of the example products they've already announced, they seem to pretty much in line with OZ/world prices

Just remember there is an additional 5% GST  in NZ and around a 10-12% currently difference.

That took me longer to figure out than I would like to admit.

To be fair, the coffee might not have kicked in when you posted :)

As long as the alpine parrot doesn't chew on the rubber parts. 😁

That's not right. When Ikea opened its first store in Germany on 17 October 1974 (more than 50 years ago), the country was still divided in two by the Allies, and there were ‘only’ 62 million of us at the time. Nevertheless, Ikea here is a horror experience at the weekend in terms of the crowds.

Wait until you hear how Kiwis are pronouncing the name "Ikea" and you'll have a conniption.

Nope, we expect the english pronouncing and hey, it‘s just a brand name with products designed in Sweden and >80% MADE in China. So do your due diligence when shopping, because most, but not all of it will stand up to closer quality scrutiny. 😉

I have to say, some of that stuff is both fairly interesting looking and well priced. I wonder how long we should wait for the hype to die down. Hopefully, everyone leaves Auckland over the Xmas break...

You will find that if you want to ‘quickly’ get hold of a small 5$ part you forgot for your kitchen installation (for example) at a saturday, you get the impression that entire families, including grandparents, are using the shopping experience to leisurely stroll and browse, and you have to be extremely careful not to run over a toddler running around while you desperately try to get back to your work as quickly as possible – but somehow everyone is in your way.

Pro tip: find the two or three shortcuts in the maze, or you'll end up running through the entire shop on it’s full length. 😁

Incidentally, Ikea (pronounced ‘e-kea’) is the 12th highest-grossing restaurant chain in the entire country, which is not something you would immediately think of.

$1.50 Vegan hot dogs, or $2 normal  hot dog, or $2 waffle ice creams will bring in a lot of people in. It is a day out for many.

Everyone that doesn't leave Auckland over xmas will be going to Ikea. Also, people from Waikato will be driving to Ikea over xmas break.

Have you tried Costco on a Saturday or Sunday? It's still nuts. I'm surprised they don't get busted for fire regulations or something of that nature!

So.. xmas break Ikea.. at Sylvia Park..

Browsed the App this morning (iOS). Prices on the whole look quite attractive.

It's going to give Freedom et al a real hurry up. Even Kmart isn't looking so cheap now. The Warehouse (IMO) has been left behind now for setting up a home on a budget.

🙂 Imagine, we have 3 ikea in 1 city (and the online store anyway). 😉

I'm still surprised my mum and dad in France have one 5 minutes drive from them and they live in a town with about 9,000 people only 😄
