Sadly it was a Hanukkah event with over 1000 people attending. 16 deaths at this time.

It's a very sad day for Australia.

Reddit is full of videos that are popping up faster than they can be taken down.

The only one I have had any interest in was the one of the hero who tackled a gunman and disarmed him.

Of course the Americans in the chat are all saying he should have double-tapped him while he got the chance. Incredible how little these people value life, regardless of who's.

Such sad news. It's especially sad, knowing that they were just families enjoying the summer festivities.

I saw the vid all media has of the guy getting the gun from one of the gunman - good on that guy, risky but prob saved a crapload of lives in doing so. Can see from the gunman's movements he was expecting to be shot by his own gun......

given that the gunman ran back to his colleague to get another firearm and keep shooting, i can kind of understand that rather carefree comment. i don't think pulling the trigger, even in that situation, is an easy thing to do for normal people. nor should it be.

this is utter madness!

No matter how difficult we cannot allow these tragedies to fuel the rhetoric of hate.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Its not like they were even geared up for it from images and info I've seen. Did they just wake up and go "hey lets go play terrorist today".....

I just cannot fathom the mindset of these sort of people "lets go shoot someone", even if its years in the planning. Pretty sure they'd be horrified if someone turned up and did the same to their family/friends/community.

This "tit for tat" BS they all go through benefits no-one.

The guy who grappled with the murderer was Ahmed the fruit shop seller. Good for him, a true hero.

What a cruel tragedy this is at a time when people are breaking for the holidays. So many families in ruins in a country you don’t expect to have this sort of crime happening. Poor kids left without parents. At least their strong knit community will be there for them.

It's reported that the gunmen were a 50yr old and his son with the 24yr old now in police custody. That probably means that the gunman that got tackled was later shot by police.

I see NZ Herald is reporting armed police stationed outside the Holocaust Center of NZ in Wellington.

Ahmed the fruit shop seller is a damn brave man for standing up to the shooter and wrestling the weapon off him.

Theres a pic of one of the shooters on Herald looking down the sights of his gun. Gives me the chills. What was going through his mind right at that moment.

I'm surprised the hero has been identified. Hope this doesn't put a target on his back.

probably won't matter too much to him.

religiously speaking, both of them are aiming to have a more pleasing after life, but they approached the commission in completely opposite ways.

you might be surprised to hear that both of them hero and MSM are fulfilled and satisfied of their actions

Westerners who don't have a concept of these stuff will never understand what's going on, which is why these things keep happening

not sure what happens in Australia from here but there could be sociopolitical implications

very sad day for everyone, and unfortunately it's now very close to home

Are these comments based on religious studies or just hearsay and reckons?

Peace isn’t passive—it’s the most radical act of courage. When we choose harmony over hostility, we rewrite the future.
