31.6C here in Christchurch.

Went for 7am walk and then into the garage/workshop to make the wife a rimu chopping block. All done, just needs oiling.

Decided to call it quits and come inside for lunch and watch the cricket when the garage got to 32C.

Looks like the Wellington girls should win.

Behodar:

I hope your bedroom fans aren't too loud: you don't want to trade hot temperatures for hearing issues (I speak from experience here...)

Never thought of that. It’s one of those overhead ones run on middle setting. I’m part deaf in one ear and I play podcasts at night- they’re definitely louder because otherwise I can’t hear it if the ‘bad’ ear is face up. You’re probably right, not so great on the ears.

I'm sorry, but the new municipal housing regulations prohibit keeping rooms available for AirBnB, for example. I would have to apply for a licence to do so, and renting rooms is not part of my core business. 😉

31degrees at 4.pm, pouring with rain, and think the building I’m in may have just got struck by lightning. Loudest bang I ever heard, and it sounded like something impacted the roof.

One guy was outside, said he thinks the bolt just missed him, got the fright of his life.

Dramatic stuff.

Lightning damage should be readily seen, check the corners of the building and any chimneys etc.

Veranda roofs,  cross flow ventilation and office on south side of house seems to be comfortable enough. Plan B today will be setup laptop in the lounge, close doors and crank up the 8.5kW heat pump.

I was at Takapuna beach yesterday afternoon. A few people in the water but I was surprised at how few were actually there - I thought it would have been packed but there was plenty of room.

Rikkitic:

I wanted to just say hot but Geekzone won't let me do that.

So what is everyone doing to cope with the record heatwave weather today? Personally, I am just staying indoors. I went outside this morning for my first coffee but it was like stepping into the slipstream of a hair dryer. It is cooler in the house so that is where I am staying. How are you coping?

We were Napier over last week and it was hot  especially in Havelock North (our target retirement destination to live). We saw the forecast for Saturday and Sunday and decided to leave earlier. We didn't want to risk driving in the forecast winds. It was  windy enough on Saturday driving to Te Awakairangi.  Heat above 35 degrees does not do my any favours so wanted to avoid the heatwave.

We were hit by big winds Sunday and our grounds were a scene of Armageddon this morning, thankfully our neighbour came over and cleared it up as my wife had to go to work this morning.

I hope the fires up there are not near you.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
