I wanted to just say hot but Geekzone won't let me do that.

So what is everyone doing to cope with the record heatwave weather today? Personally, I am just staying indoors. I went outside this morning for my first coffee but it was like stepping into the slipstream of a hair dryer. It is cooler in the house so that is where I am staying. How are you coping?

It was hotter yesterday than today's forecast here. I was at a friend's place and there was a nice breeze in the morning, although we ended up putting the heat pump on in the afternoon. The really brutal bit was getting home: I had the curtains open so when I got back at 7:30 it was 34 degrees inside!

Yesterday was a scorcher here in Wellington, around 42C on the back deck ... ambient was meant to be 24C.

Today not so much, just gale force winds ... gusts @ 120kph.

Drink more beer !!

Staying inside (Auckland) and hoping it is not too hot, however I suspect we will see a new record high set today.

Unofficially I had 30.9 degC outside at 11am. It's 27 degC now as we approach noon.

Back on 07 December last year, it was supposedly the hottest day since records began in the 1960s.

On that day my lounge heat pump worked happily until 4:30pm when the klixon thermal switch in the outdoor unit cut off power to the outdoor unit, and left me with no aircon for two hours until things cooled off.

The klixon operates at or above 45 degC so it must have been HOT, with the combination of ambient air plus the heat being shed by the outdoor unit while cooling inside.

I'm expecting the klixon to trip again today.

I'm 100m from the beach, so will drag a paddle board down there later this afternoon and enjoy the water then :)

Until then, will hide in my garage/office with the dog and a fan. (Damnit, emptied out the bar fridge last week)

Just got up, didnt notice the heat till I went downstairs and OMG - Guess that planned lawn mowing isnt happening. I will just go to the garage, drag the ikea billy inside and then put it together where its cool.

it was foggy this morning, give you some idea of how high the humidity was. the temps got up enough mid morning to trigger the heat pumps and they are continuing to run. keeping it cool is better than trying to drag temps back down. peak outdoor temp not expected until this afternoon. expected temps is to be a 1 deg short of the highest i've ever had here.

Feel like we’re missing out in Lower Hutt, only 20 degrees here but a bit windy.

Looking at the map on WeatherUnderground is a bit sobering however looking at all the high temps in the Hawkes Bay

Hope it gets cooler for you, I’m seriously thinking of getting ceiling  fans in the bedrooms only way I could sleep in Aussie . I can see why apartments only had a sheet on the beds.

It’s beautiful in the lounge with the windows open in EBOP. Hot as heck out in the sun though. Took the dog for his usual 5:30am walk when it was nice and cool, did some yard work after breakfast with frequent shade breaks and been chillin’ in the lounge since. We open the windows up first thing in the morning and close curtains or tilt blinds to keep the sun out- saves on power running heat pumps in air con mode. At night though we run fans in the bedroom. Oh and we make lemonade with our lemons and drink it with ice. Yay, summer!

I hope your bedroom fans aren't too loud: you don't want to trade hot temperatures for hearing issues (I speak from experience here...)
