It's not specific to this bar thou. I've personally been in multiple bars that have had onerous licensing conditions forced on them around noise.

I wish they'd put onerous conditions on those damn Harley Davisons farting round the whole country.

I know (somewhat) off topic.

It all came down to money. The bar owner didn’t want to spent any on more soundproofing and the building owner was offered a good deal by chemist warehouse. The fact that the bar owner was the building owner makes you wonder if the deal was done some time ago.

Call me cynical, but I believe it's part of a larger push to destroy the hospitality industry by anti alcohol / anti fun types.

Christchurch has been particularly hard hit, but at least the council down there are vaguely doing something.

Bars should be able to be open and noisy 24x7x365 IMHO.

I remember when apartment blocks were built around the Empire Tavern and they went from being an awesome live venue in the Inner City of Auckland, to an attempt at a gastropub/cafe.
Noise complaints were constant from the NIMBYs that moved into the INNER CITY where traffic noise would have been worse than the noise from the pub.

If you would like a bit of local history ... they are selling the assets via "All about auctions"

Now I need to convince her in doors that I need a ~12m long bar ....

You've heard of standing desks, build a tall planter with a wide top rather than a low planter with seat.
