It wasn’t that long ago that all appliances were sold without plugs in UK, with the buyer having to fit a suitably fused plug at home. It’s an easy enough task to do provided you know which end of a screw driver to hold

Doesnt make it legal though

I'm not sure where the question of legality comes from - NZECP50 lays out the requirements, and says you can crack on with swapping a plug.

legal for home owners to fit their own plugs.

not sure on todays situation but many many years ago they changed the rules so repair shops had to fit oem style plugs. as most appliances have molded plugs, they had to replace the entire cord with one with a molded plug and then the home owner could go fit their plug to it if they wish. an absolute pita. i hope they changed that rule.

More to the point is what makes the oven so special that its worth importing it over one of the many locally available ones?

because the big wide ones are out of stock in NZ, and stores have confirmed they won’t be restocking.

I tend to glance at those when visiting stores because I've had to buy one occasionally. I recall Briscoes tends to have the largest range and good NZ prices when in sale mode. The spec sheet above gives a 68 litre volume which may well be larger than anything sold in NZ I don't know.

I want to buy a benchtop convection oven from another country because the big wide ones are out of stock in NZ, and stores have confirmed they won’t be restocking. I was wondering, is it safe to import one?

Just out of interest, what brand and model are you wanting to get?

That's 68L capacity - so you are right - its a monster!!!

Most of the NZ ones are from around 22L to about 30L.

The price is pretty good too if my calculation is correct.

https://www.harveynorman.com.my/home-appliances/kitchen-appliances-en/ovens-en/khind-ot6805-electric-oven.html shows RM419 ~$185NZD.

How much will freight cost you though?

If it's still a good price even after that, then I am inclined to agree with the other posts above.

Just get the plug replaced with an NZ one if it is 220-240v. It would draw the same amount of power as a decent heater cranked up to full..

Sorry for the late reply, my notificaitons weren't notifying me. But yep that is indeed the benchtop oven Im wanting. Freight should be roughly around $150NZD I think since Im going to go with Sea Shipping (still waiting for shipping proxy to get back to me). Plane shipping is wayy too expensive.
