paradoxsm: I had sent them an email (thought it was a suggestions box) liking the new scheme overall but disliking the "FixedWidth" template that seems to plague most of the web. Got a response

The old dynamic width site worked wonderfully and I don't know anyone who disliked it. Why change it! As a result, we have lost things like quick login on the left (still come up on the same page if you click the top-link) and simple "sidebar" which I really liked. sigh...

Probably a bit harsh, but, having all that wasted space makes it much harder to absorb the information on the screen. Being able to read longer sentences, without having to have your eyes flick back and forth is more efficient.
