Have you seeen the new trademe design: http://preview.trademe.co.nz

I quite like it, looks a bit more like eBay.

I am guessing that most users will not like the new design as some people don't like dealing with change but I think it will be better in the long run.

Important thing to note - the new Trade Me preview site is a LIVE site. Bids placed on the preview site are the same as bids on the old site.

Any idea when it officially goes live and loses the preview prefix?

I don't like it, because, on the widescreen display here, it's centered in the middle with large white areas left & right. The old / current site uses all of the realestate of my screen, instead of just being in the middle...

Don't think I'd pay for a featured listing now with it being pushed further down the screen, and out of sight without scrolling. Ok, the old site I needed to scroll, but, not that much.

My 2 cents - if there ain't too many people complaining about the design, don't change it. Obviously it's a high hitting site, maybe it would be better if they put their resources into other things...

Saw this on twitter yesterday. I do like it, most of the changes are fairly subtle and look rather good. The only issue for me is the small centered layout is kinda a waste on my 22" widescreen monitor.

I understand why they have done it - it does look good, but on a site like Trademe (where you are basically viewing lists, and tables of data) I feel I would probably prefer the extra width over the nicer design. So I'm not doing so much scrolling. Particularly when in gallery style listings.

Overall though - thumbs up!

Like the style, and it has spriting for performance inprovements and they have tidied up the general look and changed the fugly tabs at the top.

I utterly despise the "centered" layout and huge spacing between all the lines of text, all* sites seem to do be doing this now along with mandatory endless scrolling downwards and as RedJungle has pointed out, my 24" has been pretty much a waste of money.(sigh)

It also has removed the "quick login" on the left.

(* Geekzone being one of the thankful few exceptions... for now, if it changes to a skinny-groan 800px wide page, i'll bail)

No, I read the notice on the site and I am posting here because I know a lot of people wouldn't read warnings there.

Sites that are well run generally wont make these types of changes without some serious research and testing. I seem to remember that last time Trademe moved the location of the search box to its current position, there was an insane increase in revenue or sales because of it.

If they are experiencing much higher rates of revenue from a fixed-width ebay-esque design, then they have a responsibility to their shareholders to implement it :o)

I think the new placement of the Ads and a more prominent search bar will increase revenue, as long as their search technology is up to scratch..

Also, I think the homepage title tags might be wrong, Shouldn't it be TradeMe instead of Trade Me: http://www.google.com/trends?q=trademe%2C+trade+me

It's all very confusing... The TITLE tag shows "TradeMe". The tabs show "Trade Me" and so on... The company is "Trade Me Ltd" and that's what I use - but most people search for "TradeMe".

Definitely not keen on the new website.. The older design that is currently in play is great. it's simplistic, but not excessively.

I have 2x22" monitors here. The new TradeMe looks hideous.
