rscole86: Almost, Geekzone without ads is brilliant. Geekzone without ads and the ability to ban spammors is bliss :D

We actually use our own dedicated mod server running off multiple redundant fibre optic links, and power sources (with backup diesel generator) all out of freitasm's lounge.

I wish.

In reality, we are all stuck in the cupboard under freitasm's stairs, and when you have Mr Tony "Giraffe" Hughes in here as well it is very cramped.

I was subscribing and then stopped for a while (I received an email from paypal which I thought was a phish, so I deleted it - d'oh!).

Now back on board and loving it - I would seriously reccommend subscibing to all members, not only can you browse without the ads, the massages from Mauricio are fantastic!!?! ;-)

What the hell sort of targetted advertising is it on here? I keep getting ad's at the bottom of the page for hardon pills... Goodsync and orcon and google text blocks are fine.... but yeah....

A bit off topic but here we go... You are seeing ads for Pfizer. Those are not targeted ads - they bought impressions to run on Geekzone. I didn't see a problem running ads for a pharmaceutical company. It's not like they are the spammer who send those emails selling \/1agra. They are the real deal.

Reality is - a lot of people may identify themselves with the problems being discussed on the website. Yes, I visited their site before approving the ads.

It's good of you to be so honest.  I wuldn't worry, because it is apparently a common problem! Tongue out

Now I read it again I see what you mean. No I didn't visit it because of the symptoms. I visited it to see what was about and if it was ok to run the ads on Geekzone.

freitasm: I know some people are not bothered by ads - I am not, unless they are popups, popunders and things with screaming noises.

If I visit a site with these kinds of ads I simply don't go back. But reality is that everyone on the Internet needs to pay for their bills. We try to block anything that would annoy me personally - so you can be sure there won't be any ads with this kind of content, or other bad stuff...

OMG NO WAI!

yeah, don't tell me you dont know THAT ad..

It needs a bullet.

EDIT: Im just glad its not on this site :P

Am looking at subscribing in the near future, but until then, im not at all worried about the ads.

Most of them are relevant to what im into anyhow (broadband offers and what not) so its quite handy having them there.

You don't look for it, it looks for you.
