Steak & Mushroom pie from Elite Bakery, Alicetown, Lower Hutt.
A lovely delicious fresh sticky banana cake with whipped cream.

Home made apple pie with vanilla icecream gets my vote.

Although I do like cake a lot too (possibly too much), but it comes second to apple pie...

oh yeah, banoffee pie all the way, that stuff gives me a mouthgasm

For billions of years since the outset of time, every single one of your ancestors survived, every single person on your Mum and Dads side, successfully looked after and passed onto you life.  What are the chances of that like?

Pie every time. Simple reason... you can't put tomato sauce on a cake...(well you could but ...hmmm)

If you have to have cake...then I'm with the 'cream topping' brigade!

My wife's carrot cake - cream cheese icing at least 2cm thick, closely followed by her home-made cheesecake (actually she made a savoury cheesecake once - amazing and delicious!!)

Not a big pie eater, but it would have to be a McGregors mutton pie from McGregors Bakery (funnily enough) in Palmerston (the REAL Palmerston in the SI!).

thecripplernz: those Butter Chicken pies from BP connect. They're super tasty.

Pure unadulterated tastebud-sex on a stick is what those things are.

Now if only they were a bit 'hotter'.

Couldn't agree more. Not many things in this world better than a great banoffee/banoffi pie.

For a quick and easy banoffi pie (I have about 4 or 5 different recipes but this is the quickest and easiest!):

Bake you pie crust in the oven to packet directions. Allow to cool then slice in a whole heap of bananas. Sprinkle bananas with a little lemon juice and then pour over a whole tin of caramel condensed milk. Bang - done.

Then there's tiramisu... although not sure if it could be classified under either of these categories!

Another vote for banoffee pie here. There's a place called the Brew Shack in Napier that does (or at least did the last time I was there a year or so ago) an absolutely divine one - the best I've ever had. My mouth's watering just thinking about it!!

Having said that, you can't beat a plain and simple homemade apple pie with vanilla ice-cream either.

As for cake - a nice dense fruit cake (but without all the nuts, which in my view just ruin it!), carrot cake, or banana cake would be my pick.

Those pies are so so good. Maybe we could do the next Geekzone event at a BP, and have butter chicken pies for everyone?

I'd also prefer a comparison between cake or death.

Oh this country neeeeeds more pie-only restaurants (like 'The Pie Hole' on TV's Pushing Daisies) - slurp...

My fav - Lamb and Mint Pie from Pete's Pies in Wanganui (nope don't live there but good to get on the way through).

Second fav - a good mince & cheese with the lid taken off and a tomato diced small and mixed into it :P
