I have caught numerous drivers speeding that have been using radar detectors. Radar detectors are useless if the cop driving the car is using the stalker correctly.

If I am following other traffic (which makes it very hard for oncoming drivers to see me) and flicking the radar on only when a vehicle comes into my view it literally takes half a second to lock their speed in, far too quick to allow someone to react to their radar detector and brake as well.

Personally I think radar detectors should be banned, they only have one use and that is to aid drivers to speed. I guess given the above though I might be a bit biased.....

yep that's called RF Hold other wise known as instant on but what if you clock the car that is in the lead and the car behide him detects your radar then the 2nd car gets off.

There are any number of variables that can happen.

What I am saying is regardless of if you have a detector or not if you happen to be driving towards or away from a cop that is using the stalker correctly you will get caught sooner or later.

Why not just slow down?

Jadefuzy: well i don't think banning radar detectors is going to keep the road toll down at all i think that they need to remember that there is more people living in new zealand then there used to be. and i think if the police are allowed to monitor our speed then why aren't we allowed to monitor there radar. The Police Say that (Radar Detectors don't Work) so why ban them if they don't work

While I agree that there are more deaths because there are more people living here, I cant agree with the second part. Police are allowed to monitor our speed because speeding is breaking the law. They can tap the phone lines of people that they believe to be breaking the law too, but that doesnt mean we should be able to listen in on their phone lines.

Police do not have the time or resources to get everyone. Can you imagine them lining up 30 cars, all because they were following the lead car which was caught speeding :P

How does a cop fiddling around with their radar while driving differ from a driver trying to operate their mobile phone while driving? Similarly dangerous I would expect?

I reckon! And how come the police are allowed to speed when they chuck their lights/sirens on but when I do it, I not only get a ticket for speeding but one for the lights too!

I guess the law makers have decided that any danger from letting police operate radar's is outweighed by the danger posed by motorists who would otherwise speed on a regular basis should the deterrent of speed detection devices not be there.

Native Pirihimana are not our nations police, and therefor you are not allowed to have lights/sirens, speed or pull people over.

Although this is railoading the OT quite badly..

Open ended wording once again (like that "reasonable amount of time" in the CGA)

* Making or receiving calls if the phone is "secured in a mounting fixed to the vehicle". This typically means a cradle, or fully integrated systems. But the driver can only manipulate a securely mounted phone "infrequently and briefly".

* If the phone is securely mounted, drivers may use speed dial. They may also enter a full phone number if the manipulation is infrequent and brief.

Thats not true! They also let drivers know when the gas station coming up has automatic opening doors......

But seriously, its true. I've never had one, never had the need for one. Last I recall, they were marketing that they're used to keep yourself in check, just incase you were over the limit.
If you need a beeping device to remind you to keep an eye on your speed, you shouldn't be driving.

If you need one of those, then get the dam beeper installed!!! You know the one that beeps at you the second you go over 100 :P or whatever they get set at.

I had one of those in my old import! Didn't get it disconnected because the beeper was the same one that reminded you when the lights were left on. Got good at driving at 104.9km/h.

I found that lots of cops leave their stalkers on all the time. Its the highway patrol dudes that are the sneakiest. In any case, they usually ping someone before they get to me yet within detectable range.

The dudes with the guns are easy meat for my detector. There is so much traffic around i pick them up with plenty of time to spare and wave as i drive past!

In fairness to the Government, the recent trend towards larger demerits and smaller fines has made it less of a coffer-swelling exercise and more about hitting speeding drivers where it hurts-by taking their licence!!
