I drink for the taste. I love the taste of a really good beer. Emmersons, Epic, Moa.. there are some great NZ beers.

Sometimes I will drink enough to be intoxicated, but more often than not I will only have one or two.

NZ has a bad drinking cluture, but it doesn't mean that drinking is bad. To quote those damn ads, its the way we are drinking.

Anyway, good for you guys to stand up and say you don't really like drinking. If you don't like something, don't do it. But I love it. So if its cool with you guys, I'm gonna keep having a beer every night or so.

Mankind has always been obsessed with altering his consciousness.

Alcohol increases the release of the neurotransmitter dopamine, which is related to pleasure, in an area of the brain that is associated with all types of addictions. It stimulates the activity of opioid peptides, which increases the pleasurable effects of alcohol and activates serotonin receptors.

We are animals and we have urges. We try something - it makes us feel good - so we keep doing it. Pretty simple really. Some of us have more control over that than others.

I can't speak for the people in NZ that write themselves off on a regular basis - but my assumption is there's a lot of people out there with just horrible lives and it's the only escape they think they have.

Rubbish.  During the Prohibition era there were certainly people drinking, but not more than once it was legalised.

Do you think if cannabis were legalised less people would smoke it?  That's nonsensical, unless you believe some people smoke it just because it's illegal.  I reckon there'd be quite a few people keen to try it that aren't interested in breaking any laws.

If you don't like it don't do it.
I was the same at high school with smokeing, all my friends smoked but I never did.
I tried it, quite a few times actually, but couldn't see how people could enjoy it so never continued.
Those same friends all still smoke now so I'd hate to know how much money they have spent on it since school!

Maybe you can get a snorkel/smoke adaptor so you can snorkel and smoke at the same time. Add a floating keg that feeds beer down your snorkel and you will never have to get out the water (except to pee of course)
