I find $1 reserve auctions often end up way over the price of other items on trademe, people must get caught up in the moment or something

All too common, often trademe is the most expensive way to buy something or buy something that is just utter rubbish or fake. Trademe themselves are starting to really push that "most items are new", the good old bargains of pre-loved rarities are all but gone I'm afraid.

And $15 to post it, what a total rip-off merchant.
