Why would anyone pay $135 for a second hand phone that costs $99 brand new?

Words for this?

Probably because it has a 2degrees simcard. =P

Seriously though, not the first time i've seen this, it's insane.

What's really surprising me is the shear amount of bids that there were above $99.

Amazing..

People automatically think if its on trademe it must be cheaper than retail and don't bother to check.

It happens with computers as well.

As a seller, these are kinds of people i want to buy my goods! :D

As per boby55, many buyers on TradeMe automatically assume that an item will be cheaper than retail. Often they are, but many dont do their homework.. like the winning bidder in this auction! She may also pay extra for shipping.

Not very bright some folks.

I have seen it a few times I think people just do not do their research and automatically assume that if its on trademe then it must be cheap. Good for some sellers :)

I experience this so often when selling stuff on TradeMe.

Often I have sold used goods for what it costs new, people are just too stupid to do a bit of research. If they think it's reasonable they will buy it. *facepalm*

The Darwin Awards are, of course, legendary - and some TradeMe buyers may eventually qualify - but, to be picky, they would have to cause their own demise with the cellphone to be eligible!!

Just the other day there was a trader who posted up a complaint in General discussion, about a trader giving her a blue feedback, I had a look at her feedback and nearly every one was negative! She had about 25 all up with 18-19 negative feedbacks! Added her to my blacklist. Seriously though what a dreamer or what the hell was she thinking did she not know posters will check out your feedback if you post a trade complaint and Generals is not the place to place it!

I had a guy come in to the store with a Vodem stick he got off trade me, he wanted me to help him out because the software was corrupted i tried but the stick was just not working. i asked him how much he paid for it and he said $350!!!
I took great pleasure in telling him that we sell the same thing brand new for $199.

He had this uncomprehending look on his face like he didn't under stand.
So i told him again. and he said "Oh"

Then i told him to "Get off my plane!"
and pulled his parachute cord and he got pulled out of the plane and went through the engine.

....that may have been Harrison Ford....Im a bit hazy on the details.

there are plenty of trade-tards our there.

I sold my odl scratched gamecube a couple of years ago, and got $50 more than it sold for brand new in EB Games.

and again recently I sold my original 360 and got far more than it was worth. I was so concerned it was going to a scam of some kind I almost didn't go through with it, but it all went through fine in the end.

There are also plenty of people selling original PS3s (40GB hard drive) on their own and trying to get $600+ for them, when brand new PS3 slim sells for less than that, with a free game.
