I bought an iPhone off trademe just before Christmas, Had it posted on Christmas Eve by Parcel post where it was picked up from the senders address. I continued to look at track and trace over the next few days and noticed that it still sat on the "Picked up on way to NZ Post Depot" which is sat on.

Just wondering,why'd you get it sent via parcelpost tracked when i think their compensation for lost etc packages is only max $250 or possibly $500?
That's risky in itself..
When i got my iphone off trademe i got it sent via overnight courier that had (i think) $1000 max compensation available if the iphone got lost in transit etc

I think its up to $1500.. I think I only got parcel post because it was the cheapest

ParcelPost is $250 max. and CourierPost is $1500 max.

I've always found when using ParcelPost that the tracking is unreliable if it works at all and frequently still saying it was at the original depot long after it had been delivered.

On several occasions I have had the posted item in my possession for about 2 weeks before the ParcelPost tracking system finally says it has been delivered. It's certainly not something you can rely on with any degree of certainty at all. CourierPost's tracking system is far far better than ParcelPost.

I find fastway are the best delivering to me here. NZ post parcelpost is hopeless, they leave things in/on/under the letterbox (its a parcel, not a letter) - fedex always seem to go to the neighbours house because on the GIS maps the numbering is wrong, and they dont seem to see the giant 34 on the front of my place. NZ couriers find random places to leave things despite the authority to leave being very specific about where things go and how to access it, courier post are ok, but insist on ringing the bell even tho the authority to leave says not to.

Fastway just get it right every time. Seems to be the same driver all the time that helps too I guess.

I always have anything couriered to me coming to my work address during weekdays. If i know it's going to be arrive to me on Saturday, then it gets delivered to my home address. I'm familiar with all of the couriers and i've advised them all that my preference is to leave sig required parcels at home, if it does get delivered home.

I'm currently expecting an "express" package from overseas. It left Japan on Thursday, arrived in Auckland on Friday... and is still there. It's nice and fast until it gets into the country, then the "express" part seems to be ignored.

Coming back to my original issue with Fastway, I got a reply today from the Fastway Taranaki franchise owner to an email I sent to him and PCOnline Shop last week. In respect of the disclaimer at the bottom to not disclose its contents I will not post the full email here but only say that he is apologetic and tells me he intends on censuring the courier involved. He also clarifies that it is standard practise to leave a calling card, and assures me that if the goods are damaged or lost I will refunded for the full cost.
Obviously these are just words, and I would be nervous if I ended up in the situation of having to see that last promise through. However it is good to see a positive response from Fastway on this, and them at least giving the impression that the feedback is appreciated (this was explicitly stated in the email, though again take with a grain of salt) and action will be taken.

So my suggestion out of all this would be to do what NZer's can be scared to do at times and use our power as consumers. Complain (politely) when we don't get the service we expect, and vote with our dollars when we feel a company isn't up to scratch (and have the option, not sure about when you are ordering online).

Fastway didn't care when i rang them after something i bought was just left in the middle of the driveway

That's pretty bad, although I suppose it depends on which franchise owner you end up talking to. Also I guess emails also avoid the possibility of you calling at a bad time, although that never excuses bad customer service.

I also get frustrated with the stuff left at the front door in view of the street, Courier Post is the worst, particularly with the fact that even when I am at home they still leave it at the door and don't ring the door bell.

Fastways always ring the door bell and get me to sign on the electronic pad.

The Courier Post courier must be a busy guy around here as if the package is small enough he just stuffs it in the letter box !

burtz, is that for signature required or not?

Personally, I just courier everything to my post office box. For $115 a year, all my courier packages show up in one place and even for non-signature required packages I have to take the little yellow card from the box up to the counter to collect. They won't accept packages delivered by any courier but CourierPost though.

Had the same experience a year ago. The courier guy left parcel just on the top of mailbox (no one was at home and it does not fit mailbox). But then it's GONE, some one took it... It was SIGNATURE required delivery as I paid extra $1.50 for the option. after two weeks I got new item free of charge, but anyway it was bad and the company is FASTWAY in Auckland.

I'm trying to avoid these guys now and always ask sellers what company they use and could they use Courier Post in stead.

check if a previous occupant of the house had an authority to leave - but in anycase they should not be delivering to letterboxes as they are not post, I have problems with that with nz couriers since I have a long driveway.
