Yes, it looks like you're in the clear.

That said, I still STRONGLY recommend getting in touch with the Citizen's Advice Bureau or Community Law Center, especially if HN try to pursue you for it.

They tried to do something similar to me not long ago from Harvey Norman

I bought a Dishwasher, haggled with the sales rep and agreed on a price

Paid, picked it up immediatly etc from their warehouse.

they then called up and "asked if i opened the dishwasher" i said why? "as he sold it under cost"

I said that was too bad for them and yes i had opened it (even tho i hadent)

The sales rep guy was so worried for his job he wanted to give me the cash to pay the difference
so he wouldnt get in trouble.

So we did.

If it had the $599 price on it, either by mistake or whatever, and they didn't question you when you purchased it - then its their problem, not yours.

Surely, if you scanned an item that was $1999 and it had a discount/special of $1400 off, wouldn't that ring alarm bells to HN before continuing the sale to the customer? Inadequate sales training perhaps?

Once you have bought and paid for goods and services, the contract of sale is completed. This means that if the trader has charged you the wrong price, the trader cannot ask you to pay the balance.

HN did the same thing to my Dad a couple weeks back with a new video camera he bought. Similar story, they sold it for the wrong price, and the rep asked Dad for his address, as the rep was going to drop by my folks place and pick the camera up.

Dad (obviously fuming at this stage) spoke to his manager and the manager advised if the rep made such a mistake, it would be coming out of his pay, hence why he asked to pick up the camera.

Cut a long story short, it seems there were two similar cameras sold that day, and it wasn't Dad's that was sold too cheap, it was the other guys. Quickest way to ensure a customer never uses HN again :/

Personally I'd tell HN to get firetrucked, though they may have a legal recourse and you have to comply. Speak to a lawyer.

deshanv: The sale price on the amp was $599, this was on the sticker that was attached to the amp, I never knew it was $1999 till i got home

Cool, now that thats cleared, you are in the right here!

Unfortunately for HN they have been caught out. Been there done, its not that uncommon for mistakes to happen in retail. HN will need to figure out who made the mistake though, as it could be the salesperson, checkout person, or the merchandiser.

Sometimes you win... sometimes you get to shop at another store for the rest of your life...

What troubles me is there seem to be far too many cases posted here of bad or poor pricing he from HN. I'd hate to think it was some kind of upsell sales ploy.

In October last year my friend and I each bought an iMac at HN, turns out that we were both undercharged $1200. After I refused to return mine, there were repeated calls and threats of court action by the store manager - some from a private number late at night. Nothing eventuated though, and to this day I'm still waiting for him to follow through...Interesting to note that he disappeared after I threatened to lodge a harassment complaint with the police.

Unfortunately, my friend paid via finance and they were told by the rep @ GE Money that they could be charged the difference if they didn't return the goods.

hmmm, with all these major discounts floating around I may just have to shop at HN a bit more often :D

As far as taking the amount out of the sales person's salary I think that is ilegal (IANAL). If the sales person made a fraduulent transaction then fair enough, but if it was a genuine mistake on the POS system that he didn't pick up then the money shouldn't come out of his salary.

From when I worked in brown goods man years ago any discount (other than standard discounts such as a 10% off day type sale) had to be authorised by the duty manager putting his code into the system. Individual sales people couldn not process any negotiated discount so his sort of situation never arose.

A well-recognised NZ company I have worked for tried to do this. Let's just say they didn't get very far.

Guys the model number matches the invoice. Looks like i got an awesome deal then. Maybe we should go to HN for the big big savings more often.
